WolfPack stymied in road loss to Joliet JC

Madison College commits 24 attack errors, serves one ace in three-set loss

JOLIET, ILL. - Thursday night was not Madison College's night as the 11th-ranked WolfPack traveled to Joliet Junior College and dropped a 3-0 women's volleyball in North Central Community College Conference and Region 4 play. The Pack's 24 attack errors were their most in a three-set match, and resulted in a 25-19, 25-23, 25-13 setback. The loss ends their current three-match win streak, while also snapping a win streak of 20 consecutive matches against the Wolves. Madison College still leads the all-time series by a 25-3 record.

Despite racking up 11 kills in the first set, Madison College struggled to find their offensive rhythm as they also amassed a dozen hitting errors for a -.027 attack percentage. The WolfPack turned it around in the second set and nearly evened the match at one set each as they hammered a match-best 15 kills in the set and hit at a .200 clip. Unfortunately, Joliet Junior College limited the Pack attack to just eight kills and a .083 efficiency in the third and final set to close out the home win.

Entering Thursday's match, Madison College ranked in the top five nationally in both serving aces and total blocks, averaging 6.86 and 10.1, respectively. Against the Wolves, they managed to produce just one ace and two blocks, marking their second lowest totals in both statistical categories for a match this season.

Freshman setter Daryn Schaefer continued her impressive run of 25 or more assists in a match since taking over as the primary setter two weeks ago, finishing with 31. That makes it eight consecutive matches accomplishing that feat.

Fellow first year Kendall Weisensel received most of the looks from Schaefer, posting a team-high 41 attack attempts and finishing off 12 kills. The outside hitter/defensive specialist also tracked down ten digs to complete her fifth double-double this fall. Middle blocker/outside hitter Gabby Hack was next with seven kills and the team's only two blocks.

Sophomore libero/defensive specialist Aubrie Kappes was tops in digs with 18, helping the WolfPack reach 55 as a team. The native of Marshall, Wisconsin, also had the team's lone ace.

Madison College will host Joliet Junior College (13-8, 2-1) for a rematch on Tuesday, October 18 inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The 6:00 p.m. start will be preceded by a Sophomore Night ceremony.
