Madison College makes it two straight with win over Finlandia Univ.

Thompson racks up 15 saves, Johnson, McHugh tally goals ahead of extended road trip

MADISON, WISC. - The momentum from Wednesday's overtime win carried through to Saturday as the Madison College women's soccer team took down NCAA Division III Finlandia University in a non-league game at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Thompson was a wall in front of the Lions' goal, while fellow first year players Madison Johnson and Kierstin McHugh provided the offense with a goal each. The match marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Thompson, a native of New Glarus, Wisconsin, had three saves recorded before the WolfPack was able to generate its first shot on goal, and lucky for Thompson and the Pack, it went in. Sophomore Paris Rose set up Johnson with a long pass down the sideline, and the freshman forward outraced a pair of Finlandia University defenders to the ball, which she then caromed into the goal off the 'keepers legs to make it 1-0 in the 21'. Thompson added two more saves the rest of the half, which ended with the only other two shots on goal by Madison College.

While the Lions offense continued to pepper Thompson and company with unsuccessful shot after unsuccessful shot, the WolfPack took a 2-0 in the 74' as Kierstin McHugh converted a Grace Huber pass to make it 2-0.

Johnson, a Burgin, Kentucky, native, finished with a team-high three shots on goal, and now leads the WolfPack with five goals on the year. McHugh, a midfielder from Madison, Wisconsin, is next with three goals. Liz Foye was the only other player for Madison College with multiple shots in the game.

Thompson recorded a career-high 15 goals, which ties the her for sixth-most in a match in team history. The shutout is the first solo clean sheet of her career, and it came on the day when Finlandia University generated a 20-7 advantage in total shots and a 15-6 edge in shots on goal.
