WolfPack suffer season's first loss in home opener

Rochester CTC shuts out Madison College in rematch from one week prior

MADISON, WISC. - Through three true road games to open the 2022 season, the Madison College women's soccer team was able to avoid a blemish on their record. However, Saturday's home opener at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East ended with a 2-0 setback against Rochester Community & Technical College for their first loss of the fall. The match was the second in eight days against the Yellowjackets, whom the WolfPack blanked 1-0 on their home pitch to open the season. The all-time series is now 3-2 in favor of the Pack.

Much like their prior meeting in Minnesota, the defenses stood tall in limiting the teams to 16 total shots and just 14 on goal. Rochester Community & Technical College (1-1) claimed a majority of those, with a 12-4 edge in total shots and an 11-3 lead in shots on goal.

The Yellowjackets took a 1-0 lead immediately after the opening kick, placing a shot in the back of the net just 33-seconds into the match against starting WolfPack goalkeeper Morgan Thompson. The freshman held her ground the rest of the half, making five saves to keep the differential at one. The WolfPack offense generated its only two shots on goal of the half in the final ten minutes, but sophomore midfielder Taylor Peterson was denied both times.

The second half saw RCTC add an insurance goal in the 53' to make it 2-0. Madison College simply could not find their offense, and put their only second half shot on goal in the 72' off the foot of first year defender Savi Pursley.

Thompson finished with nine saves and two goals allowed. Peterson paced the offensive effort with two shots on goal.
