KANKAKEE, ILL. - The Madison College women's soccer team found themselves in another defensive tussle Monday, however, unlike Saturday's season-opening win, the WolfPack settle for a 1-1 draw against Region 4 foe Kankakee Community College. Despite the homestanding Cavaliers out-shooting the Pack by a 21-10 margin, Madison College briefly led 1-0 in the second half after sophomore
Liz Foye's first goal of the season. The match marked the first-ever between the two programs.
Just like two days earlier, neither team was able to score in the first half. First year goalkeeper
Morgan Thompson posted five saves in the game's first 45 minutes as KCC tallied ten total shots.
Madison Johnson twice put a shot on goal before halftime, and both times was denied by the Cavaliers 'keeper.
After surviving another onslaught by Kankakee (0-0-1) to open the second half, Madison College earned a corner kick, and as the play developed, midfielder
Liz Foye was able to drive a scoring strike to the back of the net to give the Pack a 1-0 lead in the 57' with the unassisted goal. It's the eighth career goal for the Poynette, Wisconsin, native.
Following another save for Thompson on two more shots by KCC, the home team pulled even in the 61' on an unassisted goal of their own. The Cavaliers threatened to take the lead in the 67' when a Madison College foul resulted in a penalty kick that eventually missed wide of the mark.Â
Paris Rose and
Mahala Frey put consecutive shots on goal as the match entered its final ten minutes, and both were stopped. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.
