ROCHESTER, MINN. - After three head-to-head matches in 2021 and the first of two on the schedule for this season, the Madison College women's soccer team has quickly found Rochester Community & Technical College (MN) to be a respectable rival across borders. With Saturday's 1-0 road win to open the 2022 season, the WolfPack now boasts a 3-1 all-time series lead and a 6-3 edge in scoring over the Yellowjackets despite three matches being decided by a single goal. This time it was freshman forward
Madison Johnson scoring the game-winning goal early in the second half.
The two defenses controlled most of the game, with shots being extremely limited throughout. With the score still even at 0-0 after the first period, Madison College was able to net a game-winning goal in the 53'. Second year midfielder
Liz Foye sent a pin-point cross to Johnson, and the Burgin, Kentucky, native buried a shot in the back of the net. The WolfPack defense and goalkeeper
Olivia Lange took care of the rest to keep RCTC (0-1) off the scoreboard. Lange saw just three total shots in the game, with none being put on goal.
The WolfPack created ten shots with five on goal. Sophomore midfielder
Taylor Peterson was tops with three shots on goal. Johnson and fellow freshman
Savi Pursley had two shots each, with Johnson beating the Yellowjackets 'keeper for her first career goal. Foye, who recorded her ninth career assist, also had a shot on goal.
