#9 Rock Valley pulls away late, thwarts WolfPack upset bid

Ripp notches second double-double, leads trio of scores in double figures

ROCKFORD, ILL. - The fourth quarter belonged to the ninth-ranked team in the NJCAA Division III Poll, as Rock Valley College handed Madison College a 66-54 road loss Tuesday in a North Central Community College Conference and Region 4 matchup. Freshman Taylor Ripp registered her second double-double of the season, however, it was a 24-15 scoring differential over the final ten minutes that decided the game. The loss marks the 11th straight for the WolfPack against the Golden Eagles, who lead the all-time series by a 27-18 margin and sweep the regular season head-to-head for the fifth-straight season.

After Rock Valley College (14-10, 6-1) took a 14-7 lead after the first quarter, Madison College returned the favor in the second. A 10-0 run gave the pack a 21-20 lead before a RVC free throw tied the game going into halftime. The WolfPack tallied the first two baskets of the second half to assume their largest lead of the game, but the Golden Eagles scored 11 of the next 13 points to go in front. After exchanging baskets and leads, the home team managed to take a 42-39 edge into the fourth quarter, where they opened with a 16-6 run to build a double-digit lead in the first five minutes and never looked back.

Ripp, a guard from Lodi, Wisconsin, racked up 15 points and a career-best 12 rebounds, scoring 11 of her points in the second half. She finished the game 5 for 9 overall and 5 for 6 at the free throw line, and added five assists and three steals. Ripp now boasts ten double-digit scoring games and six such rebounding performances.

Sophomore Olivia Marron matched Ripp with her own 15-point effort on 7 of 11 shooting. Brianna Hendricks, a freshman from Ixonia, Wisconsin, rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points and six rebounds. First year forward Dana Zidani led the 'Pack with a career-high six assists.

Madison College was empty from long range, missing all nine of their attempts, but matched RVC in points in the paint with 28 each. The Golden Eagles held significant advantages in rebounding and turnovers, and capitalized on both with a 23-9 edge in points off turnovers and a 15-4 lead in second chance scoring.
