Madison College fades down the stretch at Loras College

WolfPack scored just seven points in final quarter, host Kishwaukee on Saturday

DUBUQUE, IOWA - A close game through three quarter faded away for the Madison College women's basketball team in a 65-51 road loss to Loras College JV. The Duhawks scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to pull away late and push their lead in the all-time series to 4-2. The WolfPack has lost two games to NCAA Division III junior varsity teams in Dubuque this season.

The host Duhawks raced out to a 14-4 lead before Madison College closed the first quarter on an 11-2 run that included nine consecutive points. The surge continued into the second quarter with a Reyna Knox three-pointer and Taylor Ripp layup to give the Pack a 20-16 advantage, their largest of the game.

The second half opened with Loras College leading 26-24, and the back-and-forth ten-minute period saw both teams build four-point differentials in their favor, which is how it ended as the Duhawks owned a 48-44 edge. A three-pointer on the opening possession of the fourth quarter ignited a 7-0 push to put Loras College on top 55-44, a double-digit lead they maintained to a 14-point win.

Freshman Cora Hansen was the top scorer for the WolfPack with 16 points to match a career-best she set in the previous outing against Prairie State College. The native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, has posted ten or more points in seven games this season, including four straight. Hansen finished 8 of 16 from the field.

Sophomore Taylor Ripp registered her second consecutive - and fourth in the last nine outings - double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Lodi, Wisconsin, product was 3 for 16 overall, but converted 5 of 8 free throws and added three assists.

Guard Mikala Williams had three points, six rebounds, and a team-high five assists, while Jordanna Davis added eight points and nine boards.

The two teams were neck-and-neck in nearly all statistical categories, with the exception of three-point shooting. The Duhawks drained 10 of 40 tries from beyond the arc, while the WolfPack was just 3 of 19.
