Kishwaukee rally hands WolfPack fourth loss in last five games

Madison College led by 12 in third quarter as season-high five players score in double-figures

MADISON, WISC. - Everything seemed to be going the right direction for the Madison College women's basketball team on Saturday inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, however, for a second straight game, the WolfPack were unable to keep the momentum in the fourth quarter and suffered a narrow 68-64 setback against Region 4 foe Kishwaukee College. The Pack, which led by as much as 12 in the third quarter, have lost four of their last five games since seeing a five-game win streak come to an end. A season-high five players registered double-digit point totals in the setback, which is the tenth in 26 all-time meetings with the Kougars.

Madison College led for a majority of the game, a lead they took with a Jordanna Davis free throw to make it 3-2 just over four minutes into the opening quarter. The differential grew to seven as Emma Paulson's layup capped an 8-2 run to close the quarter. The surge continued into the second quarter, which opened with a pair of Kayla Staveness three-pointers to bookend a another 8-2 burst and push the lead to 23-10. After a Davis layup with 4:32 to play gave the Pack a 29-15 edge, Kishwaukee College (5-5) trimmed their deficit to nine at the half thanks to seven turnovers and a 1 for 5 shooting effort going into the break.

The WolfPack still owned a 12-point lead at 47-35 with 2:12 left in the third quarter when the Kougars knocked down a three-pointer to turn the tide towards the visitors, who scored eight of the last ten points to make it a five-point game entering the final ten minutes. Another three and a free throw made it 48-47 less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. The teams battled back-and-forth, trading tied and leads Kishwaukee College converted a pair of free throws with 1:09 remaining to take the lead for good. Madison College did have a chance to tie or take the lead after Davis came up with a steal with the Pack trailing 66-64, but then missed a potential go-ahead three and the Kougars cashed in on two free throws to close out the win.

Paulson, a freshman from Columbus, Wisconsin, led the five player in double-figures with 15 points to tie her career-best. She drained three 3-pointers for the second time this season as part of a 5 for 9 effort overall. Paulson added a season-best six steals, as well as five rebounds and four assists before fouling out late in the game.

Davis finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals for her seventh game with ten or more points. Her fellow La Crosse, Wisconsin, native, Cora Hansen added 11 points and eight boards en route to her fifth consecutive double-digit scoring game.

And sophomore Taylor Ripp posted her third consecutive double-double with ten points and a career-best 15 rebounds. She also had three steals, two assists, and a block.
