ELGIN, ILL. - Back from a 19-day break in competition and the Madison College women's basketball team faltered 86-63 in a Region 4 matchup with Elgin Community College on Thursday. The setback marks the this consecutive and fifth in the last six games for the WolfPack, who still lead the all-time series with the Spartans by a 7-3 count.
Sophomore guard
Taylor Ripp paced the Pack with her sixth double-double of the season and her fourth in as many games. She tallied 18 points on 6 of 14 shooting and makes on 6 of 10 free throw attempts, while also grabbing ten rebounds.
Freshman
Jordanna Davis came off the bench to drop in 15 points thanks to a 5 for 12 effort from the field that included a three-pointer, and a 4 for 6 rate at the charity stripe. The La Crosse, Wisconsin, native added three boards and two steals.
Mikala Williams, a sophomore guard that transferred from NCAA Division III Dominican University, posted 12 points and nine rebounds. The native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, made four field goals and four free throws, to go along with three steals and an assist. Freshman
Kaylee Anzalone produced five assists to account for half of the team's total helpers.
The WolfPack trailed by four after the first quarter, but saw the deficit grow in the second quarter as Elgin Community College (6-9) outscored them 29-16 to take a 44-27 lead into halftime. The Spartans continued to step on the gas in the third quarter with a 26-18 scoring surge to put the game out of reach.
Madison College shot 33.8% (22-65) overall, but struggled to a 2 for 12 (16.7%) showing from long range. They also converted 17 of 27 (63%) free throws. The 29 turnovers by the WolfPack ties for their third highest total of the season.
