GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - Madison College fought hard down the stretch Thursday night against the #2-ranked team in the nation, however, the College of DuPage held them off to earn a 3-1 win in North Central Community College Conference and Region 4 play. After dropping the first two sets 25-19 and 25-20, the WolfPack responded with a 21-25 victory in the third, but were unable to force a fifth set with a 25-22 setback in the fourth. The decision ends a three-match win streak, while also giving the Chaparrals six wins in the past seven meetings. The all-time series still favors the Pack by a 30-12 count.
Madison College posted nine kills in each of the opening two sets, and was able to win the third despite posting just seven kills and committing five attack errors for an .054 hitting percentage. Their best effort came in the fourth set, with a dozen kills and a .186 efficiency. The WolfPack finished with 37 kills, nine aces, nine blocks, and 80 digs, the last of which ties for a season-high.
Four different players collected double-digit digs in the match, led by sophomore
Aubrie Kappes with 17. The Marshall, Wisconsin, native came up a dig shy of matching her season-best, and now boasts seven matches with ten or more digs.Â
Freshman
Daryn Schaefer recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 16 digs and 29 assists. The Mazomanie, Wisconsin, product, who also had four kills, missed her career-best digs mark by two.
Fellow first year
Kendall Weisensel also had 16 digs, and finished tied for the team lead in kills with eight and was tops with four aces. Weisensel and
Tyra Anderson each posted their eight kills on 44 attack attempts.
Gabby Hack keyed the defensive effort at the net with four blocks against the College of DuPage (21-2, 5-0) attack. Also,
Katie Wagner reached double-figures in digs with dozen.Â

Madison College (18-9, 2-3) continues a stretch of three road matches over their final four contests to end the regular season, and will travel to Milwaukee Area Technical College (12-13, 1-4) on Tuesday, October 11. The WolfPack swept their in-state rival
3-0 on September 20, improving impressive head-to-head win streaks to 38 consecutive matches and 77 straight sets. Madison College leads the all-time series by a 92-29-3 tally. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at
Reiman Gymnasium on the campus of Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
