Late Rochester goal beats buzzer, #10 WolfPack

Heartbreaking setback ends four-match non-losing streak

MADISON, WISC. - Moments away heading to overtime tied at two, the Madison College women's soccer team was handed a stunning defeat when Rochester Community & Technical College converted a penalty kick in the final minute of the match for a 3-2 decision Monday night at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The loss ends a four-game stretch without a loss for the tenth-ranked WolfPack, who have now split a regular season series with the Yellowjackets after a season-opening win in Rochester.

The evening's first goal came 16' in when Madison College freshman Alexis Kulow took a pass from forward/midfielder Elizabeth Foye and found the back of the net to put the home team ahead 1-0. The goal was the fourth this season for the midfielder from DeForest, Wisconsin. Rochester Community & Technical College (4-2) evened the score ten minutes later with an assisted goal that beat WolfPack goalkeeper Hope McFarlin.

The score remained tied 1-1 into the second half, however, less than five minutes into the half, the Yellowjackets struck again for a 2-1 lead. Madison College was able to generate the equalizer in the 79' as a loose ball made its way to sophomore Angelina Perez just beyond the penalty box, and the All-American forward/midfielder banged in a goal off the crossbar and past the 'keeper. The Madison, Wisconsin, native now boasts a team-high 11 goals.

A match that seemed destined for extra time entering the final minute of regulation changed when RCTC raced the ball up the left sideline and into the penalty box, where a foul on Madison College just inside the 18-foot line with a handful of seconds to play gave the visitors a chance to take the lead. Sophomore forward Addison Knick converted a left-footed kick just inside the right post and past a diving McFarlin.

The back-and-forth contest saw the home team produce narrow leads in total shots (13-11) and shots on goal (7-6). Perez and Paris Rose were tied for the team-lead in shots on goal with two each. McFarlin finished with three saves.
