MASON CITY, IOWA - The Madison College women's volleyball team carried a three-match win streak into the single-day NIACC Tournament on Saturday, September 25 and left with a split of two matches. The WolfPack opened with a 3-0 sweep of St. Ambrose University (IA) JV by scores of 25-13, 25-13, and 25-22 and ended the day with a narrow 3-1 setback against host North Iowa Area Community College with set scores of 20-25, 25-21, 25-24, and 25-22.
Match #1: Madison College 3, St. Ambrose University JV 0
A late scheduling change shifted Madison College into an 11:00 a.m.match with the Fighting Bees (NAIA). The WolfPack took advantage of double-digit kills in every set and a .208 attack percentage to secure their fourth consecutive match victory. The team's 75 digs marks their second highest total in a three-set match this season.
Six different players registered a kill in the match, led by middle blocker
Calla Borchert's nine kills and .333 hitting efficiency. She also had 2.0 of the team's 3.0 blocks. Second year outside hitter
Abigail Lewis posted seven kills and hit at a .190 clip.
Setter
Mariah Best produced 13 assists, while fellow setter
Kaleia Lawrence had 11 assists as part of a double-double with 13 digs.
Amelia Walton, a second year outside hitter/defensive specialist, tracked down a team-best 26 digs.
Jadyn Holman had 11 digs.
It was the first meeting between the two programs.
Match #2: North Iowa Area Community College 3, Madison College 1
The day's second match saw the WolfPack and Trojans go toe-to-toe in four hard-fought sets before taking a loss that evened the all-time series at 3-3. The Madison College defense led the way and produced 6.0 blocks and 125 digs.
Sophomore
Amelia Walton nearly broke a school record with 42 digs, the third-highest single match total in program history. The Madison, Wisconsin, native becomes just the third player to reach the 40-dig plateau. All 11 players that saw action in the match amassed at least four digs. Walton has eight matches with ten or more digs, including three straight and four of the last five matches. She also paced the team with four aces.
Setter
Kaleia Lawrence was second with 22 digs, to go along with a team-best 19 assists. The Escanaba, Michigan, native now boasts four double-doubles on the year, including back-to-back matches on Saturday.
Mariah Best had a dozen assists.
Jadyn Holman, a sophomore from Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, pumped out 20 digs and a team-leading 14 kills. Holman has generated six double-doubles this fall. She also served up three aces.
Abigail Lewis and
Calla Borchert registered eight and seven kills, respectively.

Madison College (8-9, 2-2) returns to North Central Community College Conference play on Tuesday, September 28 with the first of two matches against Joliet Juinor College (12-7, 1-2). The WolfPack has won 18 consecutive matches over the Wolves and boasts a 23-2 all-time record against JJC. First serve in Joliet, Illinois, is at 6:00 p.m.
