PALATINE, ILL. - The Madison College women's volleyball team went on the road Thursday and earned a 3-2 five-set victory over
#3-ranked Harper College in a North Central Community College Conference battle. After trailing 2-1, the WolfPack won the final two sets for a 20-25, 26-24, 23-35, 25-21, and 15-9 decision. The win comes just two days after the 'Pack earned their first N4C victory of the season, and give them a season-high three-match win streak. The win also ends a four-match losing skid against the Hawks, and gives the Madison College just their third win in the last 15 get-togethers.
Madison College played some of their best defense of the season en route to their biggest win of the fall. Sophomore
Calla Borchert became just the third player in program history to collect ten or more blocks in a match, finishing with a career-best 11.0 blocks that ties for third all-time in school history. As a team, Madison College tallied 14.0 blocks, marking their highest total in a match this season. The 6'0" native of Lake Mills, Wisconsin, also hammered home 11 kills for her third double-double of the season. Borchert registered a team-high .290 attack percentage.Â
The defense beyond the net was stellar, as well, with 83 digs. Sophomore
Amelia Walton and freshman
Abby Steinhauer tracked down 21 and 20 digs, respectively.Â
The offensive effort was led by outside hitter
Jadyn Holman's 13 kills, ending a three-match streak with fewer than ten kills. The 6'2" freshman also recorded her fifth double-double with ten digs.
Abigail Lewis had eight kills and
Olivia Marron finished with six. Setters
Mariah Best and
Kaleia Lawrence both tallied 21 assists against Harper College (10-6, 1-1).Â
Up Next:
Madison College (7-8, 2-2) will travel to Mason City, Iowa over the weekend for the NIACC Tournament. Starting Saturday, September 25, the WolfPack open against host North Iowa Area Community College at 11:00 a.m. They are 3-2 all-time against the Trojans. Match two is slated for 3:00 p.m. against Iowa Lake Community College, whom the 'Pack lost to in 2015 for their only prior meeting.Â
