Sweep of MATC-Milwaukee gives WolfPack second straight win

Efficient hitting efforts nets first N4C victory

STOUGHTON, WISC. - The Madison College women's volleyball team put together their best overall performance of the season Tuesday night with a commanding 3-0 victory over in-state rival and North Central Community College Conference opponent Milwaukee Area Technical College. The match was originally slated to be the team's home opener after 13 matches on the road, however, continued construction work and inside of H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium forced the match to move to the Sports Enhancement Academy (SEA) south of Madison. The WolfPack dominated from the outset, building double-digit leads in each of the first two sets and went on to win by scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-16.

Madison College finished the match with a season-best .404 hitting percentage, averaging 14.3 kills set. The 'Pack also took advantage of the Stormers serve recieve and generated 15 aces, their second-highest total this fall. 

Second year middle blocker Calla Borchert continued her strong play of late with a team-high 12 kills for her sixth match with at least ten. The Lake Mills, Wisconsin, product finished with a season-best .632 attack percentage. Maya Adams and Jadyn Holman trailed Borchert with eight kills each, and hit at a .583 and .429 clip, respectively.

Freshman Mariah Best registered 18 assists, while fellow setter Kaleia Lawrence had 14. Best, a native of Waunakee, Wisconsin, also keyed the impressive Madison College serve game with a career-high seven aces. Holman posted four aces and Abby Steinhauer had two.

Steinhauer, a defensive specialist, was the lone player with double-digit digs as she reached 19 for her 11th straight match with ten or more.

Madison College now boasts 36 consecutive wins over Milwaukee Area Technical College (1-6, 0-3), including 74 straight set wins. The all-time series, which dates back to 1977, stands at 90-29-3 in favor of the 'Pack.

Madison College (6-8, 1-2) will seek a third consecutive win overall and a second straight N4C win on Thursday, September 23 when it travels to play Harper College (10-6, 1-1). The Hawks are currently ranked #3 in the NJCAA Division III Poll, which has four N4C teams within the top ten. The all-time series remains close at 19-17 in favor of Harper College, who has won four straight and 12 of the last 14 meetings. First serve in Palatine, Illinois, is at 6:00 p.m.
