UPSET COMPLETE: Penalty kick sends WolfPack to statement win over #4 Rock Valley

Jonas Luskey Sanders' 73' goal gives Madison College 3-2 victory in N4C showdown

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College men's soccer team made a major statement Wednesday night - and kept their current win streak alive - with a 3-2 victory over #4-ranked Rock Valley College at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch - East Wednesday night. Sophomore Jonas Luskey Sanders converted a penalty to break a 2-2 tie with less than 20 minutes remaining to give the WolfPack their fourth straight win and to keep them atop the North Central Community College Conference. The win also snapped a four-game losing streak against the Golden Eagles and propelled the Madison College lead in the all-time series to 11-6-1.

Second year forward Lucas Martin-Heid broke a scoreless game in the 17' with his first goal of the season, and gave the Oakland, California, native his fifth career goal. The successful kick came on an assist from Erick Antimo. The WolfPack increased their lead to 2-0 when Isaak Cordova found the back of the net 13 minutes later. Evan Thom led Cordova to earn an assist on the play.

Rock Valley College (3-1, 1-1) cut the deficit in half before the end of the first half with a goal in the 33'. And shortly after the start of the second half, the Golden Eagles beat the WolfPack defense and goalkeeper Sullivan Schwitters for a second time to even the count at 2-2.

The match would turn in the 73' as the teams jostled for possession in the WolfPack's offensive third. After an apparent go-ahead goal was disallowed, a loose ball just inside the penalty box struck the hand of a RVC player and Madison College was awarded a penalty kick. Sophomore Jonas Luskey Sanders was selected to take the kick, and snuck a shot inside the left post and just past a diving 'keeper to put the 'Pack ahead 3-2. The former Madison East HS athlete now boasts three goals on the season.

The WolfPack posted a slight 14-12 advantage in total shots, while the Golden Eagles registered a 10-7 edge in shots on goal. Schwitters, a freshman from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, made a season-high seven saves.
