ELGIN, ILL. - Less than four months after losing a 2-1 halftime lead in the Region 4 Division III Championship, the Madison College women's soccer team returned to Elgin Community College and let a two-goal halftime advantage slip away in a 2-2 draw on Saturday. The WolfPack still owns a 6-3-2 lead in the all-time series with the now Division II Spartans.
The game was scoreless through the first 30-plus minutes until Madison College jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 33' goal. Midfielder
Karmen Smyth took a pass from sophomore
Emma Strieker and beat the goalkeeper for her fourth goal of the season. Six-and-a-half minutes later
Angelina Perez buried a loose ball in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The forward/midfielder's seventh goal of the season to keep her in the top five in the nation.
After the halftime break, the Spartans quickly cut their deficit in half with a goal less than two minutes into the half against goalkeeper
Marin Stauffacher. The equalizer came in the 67' on an assisted goal to make it 2-2.
The WolfPack generated a 20-13 lead in total shots and a 15-8 advantage in shots on goal. Stauffacher recorded six saves and allowed two goals.
