JOLIET, ILL. - The Madison College women's volleyball team posted a 2-2 record at the bracket-style Joliet Junior College Mizuno Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The WolfPack opened with a pair of thrilling five-set matches, winning 3-2 over Lake Michigan College in their first match, before falling 3-2 against Rend Lake College (IL). Day two saw the 'Pack in a pair of three-setters, with a 3-0 loss to Glen Oaks Community College (MI) and a 3-0 decision over South Suburban College to cap the weekend.
Match #1: Madison College 3, Lake Michigan College 2
Madison College is now 3-1 all-time against the Red Hawks after battling to the bitter end to stay in the winner bracket. The WolfPack pulled out the victory with scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 23-25, and 15-12.Â
For the match, Madison College racked up 55 kills on a .038 hitting percentage. They also registered eight aces and 12 blocks.
Jadyn Holman, a sophomore from Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, recorded a double-double with a team- and career-high 19 kills and 27 digs. Holman also was tough on the defensive side of the net with 3.0 blocks. Middle blocker
Calla Borchert hit a team-leading .433 with 14 kills and ten digs for a double-double. The native of Lake Mills, Wisconsin, led the team with 5.0 blocks. Second year outside hitter
Abigail Lewis also nearly pulled off the double-double feat, finishing with 13 kills and nine digs.
Five players collected double-figure digs as part of a season-best 143, topped by
Abby Steinhauer with 41 digs.
Aubrie Kappes enjoyed 25 digs, while
Mariah Best had ten.
Kaleia Lawrence served up three of the team's eight aces.
Match #1:Â Rend Lake College 3, Madison College 2
The second match of the day to go the distance ended with scores of 21-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17, and 10-15 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Madison College had a season-best 62 kills and 57 assist with a hitting percentage of .201.Â
Borchert continued her productive day with a career-high 17 kills and an impressive .517 attack percentage. The 6'0" middle blocker also finished with 4.0 blocks. Holman and Lewis tallied 12 and ten kills, respectively. Sophomore setter
Kaleia Lawrence keyed the offense with 33 assists, while freshman
Mariah Best had 19.
Five players enjoyed at least ten digs, led by 30 from first year defensive specialist
Abby Steinhauer. Holman and Kappes each had 21 digs, followed by 18 from
Amelia Walton, and 15 by Lawrence. Kappes also had a team-leading three aces.

Day two of the tournament began with an early showdown with the Vikings. Madison College would eventually fall 25-10, 26-24, and 25-19 in the team's first-ever meeting.Â
The WolfPack posted a team attack percentage of .082 and saw only Holman amass double-figure kills with 11 as part of a team-leading .310 hitting effort.Â
Lawrence and Best split the team's 27 assists, with Lawrence posting 14 and Best with 13. Steinhauer was tops in digs with 21.
Match #1: Madison College 3, South Suburban College 0
The tournament finale against the Bulldogs was all WolfPack by scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 25-15, and marked the first match between the two Region 4 programs. Madison College had double-digit kills in each set en route to a season-high .237 hitting efficiency.
Holman paced the attack for the third time on the weekend with 15 kills as part of a double-double with a doze digs, while Lewis, a native of Stoughton, Wisconsin, had 11. Borchert finished with nine kills, a .471 percentage, and 4.5 blocks.
Lawrence, from Escanaba, Michigan, and Best, from Waunakee, Wisconsin, had 18 and 14 assists, respectively. Steinhauer was again atop the list of defensive digs with 21, followed by 13 from Marshall, Wisconsin, native
Aubrie Kappes, and 12 each for Holman and Best. Â
