ELGIN, ILL. - Two goals in the first 25 minutes of Saturday's match at Elgin Community College propelled the Madison College men's soccer to a third straight victory with a 2-1 decision in a Region 4 contest. The WolfPack improved to 4-2 against the Spartans, who moved to NJCAA Division II this season.
Entering the match with ten goals scored of the previous 180 minutes, Madison College kept it rolling with a scoring strike in the 11'. The WolfPack were denied on three shots on goal prior to Brendon Mendez setting up fellow freshman
Isaak Cordova for the first collegiate goal for the forward from DeKalb, Illinois.
Roughly 14 minutes later, sophomore
Jonas Luskey Sanders executed a pass to first year forward
Erick Antimo, who buried a shot to put the guests ahead 2-0. Antimo, a former Madison La Follette HS athlete, leads the team with five goals on the year.
The two-goal advantage held up until the late stages of the first half when Elgin CC (1-3) put a shot past sophomore
Sebastian Varela, who got the start in goal. The native of Costa Rica recorded three saves before giving way to sophomore
Sullivan Schwitters for the final 30 minutes of the match. Schwitters added two more saves to keep the 2-1 edge through the final horn.
