Dahl's impressive debut leads WolfPack to sixth place at Highland "36"

Season-opener features pair of top-15 finishers and Madison College in top half

FREEPORT, ILL. - Featuring four first-year players and five players playing in the Highland "36" Invitational for the first time, the Madison College golf team put together an impressive showing Friday at Park Hills Golf Club. The WolfPack finished sixth out of 15 teams and were led by freshman Tyler Dahl's run to seventh-place.

Madison College began the day on fire, posting a 308 through the day's first 18 holes and sat in third place. As the temperature and humid rose, so did the pressure on the second nine, however, the 'Pack held strong and came in with a 319 to register a final tally of 627. The stroke total is the best Madison College score at the Highland "36" in eight years, while the sixth place result is the program's best since the 2015-16 season.

Dahl, a first year player from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, used three consecutive birdies and 13 pars to card a one-under 71 on the opening round. He was sitting in second place for the tournament heading into the final 18 holes, where Dahl signed off on a five-over-par 77 to finish tied for seventh overall at 148 (+4).

Fellow freshman Kaleb Lycke hung right with Dahl, using an even-par back nine on the opening round to reach three-over 75 and sat in a tie for sixth. After a pair of birdies on the back nine of the final round, the native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, turned in a 77 (+5) and was part of a two-way tie for 13th at 152 (+8).

With 73 golfers in the tournament, Madison College nearly finished with all five players in the top half of the leaderboard. Freshman Nick Kipp and sophomore Ryen Ryba each carded a 165 (+21) on the day to tie for 34th overall. Kipp, who played at Oregon HS, went 82-83, while Ryba's rounds of 83-82 were both career-bests for the Mequon, Wisconsin, native. The WolfPack also reeled in a 166 (+22) from freshman Jake Rebholz. The former Verona Area HS athlete had the team's third-best score after 18 holes at eight-over 80, however, slipped to an 86 on the final round to reach a tie for 38th overall.
