MADISON, WISC. - In-state and Region 4 rivals Madison College and Bryant & Stratton College will play a rare baseball home-and-home series of doubleheaders, and it began Tuesday at
Robin Roberts Field, where the WolfPack earned two wins. The 'Pack used a complete-game effort from
Jacob Wilde to take game one 6-2, and followed by some highlight defensive plays and clutch hitting in a 6-3 decision in the nightcap. Madison College has won five of the six all-time meetings with the Bobcats.
Game #1: Madison College 6, Bryant & Stratton College 2 (7 innings)
Bryant & Stratton College sent an early message with a first inning home run to take a 1-0 lead, however, WolfPack starter
Jacob Wilde settled in and did not allow another run until the sixth inning. In between, his teammates picked him up with runs in four consecutive innings. With the bases loaded in the second inning,
Taiten Manriquez singled to right and plated
Gabe O'Brien and
Gunnar Doyle. Back-to-back doubles by
Zach Storbakken and
Eduardo Saucedo produced another run in the third to make it 3-1. Another two-RBI single in the fifth from
Eli Kramer drove in Doyle and
Ryan Hubley, while a walk of Manriguez forced in the WolfPack's final run for a 6-1 advantage.
Wilde (3-0) earned his third win in five appearances as the former Waukesha West HS athlete surrendered two earned runs on seven hits and a walk. The lefty also struck out four to take over the team lead in total K's with 20.
Madison College had just six hits in the game, but also took advantage of six walks and two hit by pitches. Manriquez, a Waunakee, Wisconsin, native, finished with a hit and a walk, as well as a career-high three runs batted in. Kramer also enjoyed a multi-RBI performance, while Doyle was the lone player to score twice.
Game #2: Madison College 6, Bryant & Stratton College 3 (7 innings)
The day's second game was a back-and-forth affair that saw three ties and three lead changes. Bryant & Stratton College struck in the first inning against starter
Jack McNeil after two of the first three batters were able to hit doubles to left field. Two innings later, the 'Pack took the lead when RBI-leader
Zach Storbakken tripled to right and
Maguire Fitzgerald raced around from first to score. Then Storbakken touched home when Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, product
Nathan Ebersole singled to center for his first career RBI.
The Bobcats used a two-run fifth inning to go back on top 3-2, however, the WolfPack pulled even in the home half. First year outfielder
Jake Fulton led off with a double, and Storbakken registered his second run-scoring hit with a single up the middle. Madison College took the lead for good in the sixth with three runs.
Spencer Bartel drove in
Gunnar Doyle for the winning run as he doubled to the wall in center. Two batters later,
Kameron Laskowski single home Bartel, and Storbakken put the finishing touches on the rally with his second run-scoring triple of the game.
Storbakken was 3 for 3 with two triples and produced three runs batted in and another scored. Fulton, a native of Crystal Lake, Illinois, also had multiple hits with his third two-hit contest in the last six games he's played.
McNeil worked the first 3 2/3 innings and the former Edgewood HS athlete limited the Bobcats to one earned run on five hits with one K. Righthander
Justin Grosse (1-0) secured his first career win two unearned runs surrendered on two hits and a pair of walk. The Madison West HS alum also struck out two. Closer
Jett Thielke entered in the seventh to work a perfect 1-2-3 innings for his third save.

Madison College (11-6) will take a four-game win streak to Franklin Field in Franklin, Wisconsin, for the conclusion of the home-and-home series with Bryant & Stratton College (11-17). First pitch has been set for 2:00 p.m., followed by a 5:00 p.m. start for the finale.
