WolfPack extend win streak to six with sweep at Bryant & Stratton

Madison College takes all four games of home-and-home with in-state foe

FRANKLIN, WISC. - Day two of a home-and-home series with in-state and Region 4 rival Bryant & Stratton College saw the Madison College baseball team dominate a doubleheader at Franklin Field on Wednesday. The WolfPack followed the right arm of sophomore Patrick Foldy to a 7-1 win in the opener, while a trio of arms blanked the Bobcats in a 10-0 six-inning finale that followed a rain delay. The 'Pack now owns a 7-1 record since the two programs began playing in 2018.

Game #1: Madison College 7, Bryant & Stratton College 1 (7 innings)

For the third consecutive games, Bryant & Stratton College scored a run in the first inning to get on the scoreboard first. And for the third consecutive game, the WolfPack rallied right back to take control. Second year righty Patrick Foldy walked the first batter he faced, who then stole two bases and scored on a ground out. From that point on, the Colgate, Wisconsin, native held the Bobcats to just two hits over the next six innings to give Madison College plenty of time to pull away. Foldy did walk three and hit one, however, he also struck out a season-high seven batters.

After falling behind, the 'Pack quickly answered in the top of the second with a pair of runs. Jake Nelson laced a triple to center to score pinch runner Spencer Bartel, and then scored on an error during the next at-bat. A four-run third inning created a 6-1 advantage. Bartel hit the third single of the inning to drive in Kameron Laskowski, which was followed by a bases loaded walk of Gunnar Doyle to force in a run. Two more walks with the sacks packed gave RBI's to Brady Jurgella and Taiten Manriquez. The game's final run came with one big swing of the bat by Zach Storbakken. The freshman's fifth home run - and 25th RBI - of the year sailed over the fence in left.

Madison College finished with 11 hits, reaching double-digits for the sixth time in 2021. Bartel and Storbakken each posted two hits, two runs scored, and one batted in, while Laskowski used his two base knocks to produce one run scored. In all, six different WolfPack hitters registered a run driven in.

Game #2: Madison College 10, Bryant & Stratton College 0 (6 innings)

Following a brief rain delay, the Madison College bats were able to produce some thunder and lightning of their own. After a Bryant & Stratton College (11-19) error loaded the bases with one out, freshman Gunnar Doyle singled in Nathan Ebersole, and Jake Nelson followed with a double that cleared the bases. Still 4-0 in the fifth, Doyle struck again with a RBI triple and Spencer Bartel produced a sac fly ahead of a run on a wild pitch that completed three-run frame. Three more runners touched home in the visitor's sixth on a hit, two walks, two hit batters, and a fielder's choice.

Doyle, the former Oak Creek HS athlete, tallied a team-high three runs and two RBI on a 2 for 3 effort at the plate. Zach Storbakken and Ebersole also had two hits, with Storbakken driving in a pair of runs to match the output of catcher Eduardo Saucedo. Nelson, who hails from Altoona, Wisconsin, led the squad with three RBI on his lone hit, while Bartel also had multiple runs batted in on one hit.

On the bump, starter Reagan Klawiter (1-1) picked up the first win of his career with five innings of four-hit baseball. The Verona, Wisconsin, product struck out five and walked one in beginning the shutout effort that was finished by Charlie Campbell and Dayne Louis combining to pitch the sixth inning.
