MADISON, WISC. - A jam-packed weekend of baseball began on a high-note Friday as Madison College picked up two Region 4 wins over Carl Sandburg College at
Robin Roberts Field. The WolfPack narrowly got by the Chargers in a 3-1 contest to begin the day, but exploded for a 13-0 win in five innings to finish the sweep. The wins give the 'Pack a 16-4 lead in the all-time series with CSC.
Game #1: Madison College 3, Carl Sandburg College 1 (7 innings)
The home team got on the scoreboard early with a first inning run.
Gabe O'Brien drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on
Zach Storbakken's team-leading sixth double of the year. Then
Gunnar Doyle grounded out to the second baseman, which was enough for O'Brien to scoot in from third. A pair of steals and a two-out error by the Chargers in the second inning made it 2-0 when
Eli Kramer turned his lead-off walk into a run and a 2-0 advantage. The WolfPack's final run came on the second pitch of the bottom of the fifth when
Brady Jurgella smashed his second home run of the spring over the fence in right.
The Madison College arms, meanwhile, were busy scattering nine Carl Sandburg hits without allowing a run until the Chargers were down to their final two outs. Reagen Klawiter (2-1) gave up eight of the hits over his 6 1/3 innings and was saddled with the lone earned run. The Verona, Wisconsin, native also struck out three. Former Bay Port HS athlete
Jett Thielke filled his role as closer by securing the final two out and earning his fifth save of the year.
Madison College had just four hits at the plate, but did draw five base on balls. O'Brien, Storbakken,
Jake Nelson, and Jurgella each recorded a base knock, with Jurgella, the native of Menasha, Wisconsin, the only player to produce a run and a run batted in.
Game #2: Madison College 13, Carl Sandburg College 0 (5 innings)
The finale saw Madison College put together back-to-back big innings early en route to a lopsided win. Scoreless into the bottom of the second, the WolfPack strung together six hits and three walks to create a seven-run inning. Infielder
Logan Mantz, playing in his first game in nearly three weeks after suffering an injury, began the surge with a two-run single to center.
Jake Fulton followed two batters later with a RBI single that scored Mantz. With runners at second and third,
Taiten Manriquez picked up two RBI with single ahead of a run-scoring double by
Zach Storbakken and a single from
Eduardo Saucedo that plated Storbakken for a 7-0 lead.
An inning later, the WolfPack put the game out of reach with six more runs on five hits, two walks, an error, and a pair of wild pitches
Jake Fulton, Manriquez. and
Spencer Bartel all registered a run batted in to help close the book early on Carl Sandburg College (12-23)

Jack McNeil (2-0) allowed the only Chargers hit over his four innings of work, which also included four strikeouts.
Charlie Campbell entered for one inning and recorded one punchout.
Manriquez, a former Waunakee HS athlete, posted a career-high four hits that generated three runs driven in and two scored, both of which match his career-best efforts from earlier this season. Just ahead of Manriquez in the lineup was Fulton, who racked up two hits, two runs, and two RBI. Jurgella added two hits and two runs scored.

Madison College (18-7, 3-1) is back in North Central Community College Conference play Saturday, April 17 with a doubleheader at Rock Valley College (8-22, 2-0). The Golden Eagles have won three of the last four meetings, however, the WolfPack boast a 35-22 lead in the head-to-head series. First pitch for game one is at noon, with game two to follow at 3pm in Rockford, Illinois. Fans are allowed on a limited basis, and the games can be seen live

On Sunday, April 18, Madison College will play a single, nine-inning game at
Robin Roberts Field against Region 4 opponent Morton College (20-21). The WolfPack carry an 11-game win streak against the Panthers into the matinee, while also owning a 19-5 record in the all-time series. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
