WolfPack bury four 1st half goals en route to season-opening win

Four different players score for 'Pack, who plays Monday at Elgin CC

LA SALLE, ILL. - The Madison College women's soccer team used a flurry of first half scoring to net their first win of the 2021 season Friday against Illinois Valley Community College, which ended a string of 524 days between games. Four different players scored in a 19 minute span to push the WolfPack to a 4-2 win that pushed the program's win streak in season openers to six straight. The 'Pack also extended their win streak against the Eagles to five in a row since the teams first played in 2016.

Illinois Valley Community College (0-2) took an early lead with an assisted goal that beat WolfPack freshman goalkeeper Marin Stauffacher in the 8'. Her teammates picked her up with four straight goals - all of which were the first of each player's career - to put Madison College well in front. Freshman forward/midfielder Brittany Lenz converted in the 13' off an assist from Alison Strieker, who then set up the team's next scoring strike in the 21'. The first year midfielder/defender's pass to Elizabeth Foye was send to the back of the net for a 2-1 lead. Madison College needed just 90 more second to push the differential to 3-1 when former Madison East HS athlete Angelina Perez booted what proved to be the game-winning goal. Finally, in the 31', Monica Tapia-Guttierrez, a freshman defender from Madison, Wisconsin, took an Amelia Clarquist pass and scored for a 4-1 edge. The Eagles were able to score once more in the second half, however, the Madison College defense maintained the two-goal lead.

Madison College posted a 20-18 lead in total shots, while both squads put 11 shots on goal. Stauffacher, a Beaver Dam HS product, made seven saves in her first start as a goalkeeper after converting from defender.
