MALTA, ILL. - A tale of two halves saw the Madison College women's basketball team fall victim to a poor third quarter after building a halftime lead, and ultimately suffering a 62-50 loss at Kishwaukee College on Saturday. Sophomore
Olivia Marron posted her first double-double of the season and fourth of her career. The loss sends the WolfPack to a 2-9 record entering a 27-day hiatus for the holiday break, while also ending a four-game win streak over the Kougars. The 'Pack still leads the all-time series by a 16-9 margin.
Following a low-scoring first quarter, Madison College advanced a 7-6 lead into a 25-19 halftime advantage. It would all slip away in a third quarter that favored the home team, with Kishwaukee College (5-4) outscoring the WolfPack 28-8. Madison College fought back in the fourth quarter, which they won by a a bucket, but simply could not turn around the 14-point deficit.
Marron, a 5'10" forward, tallied 16 points and career-high-tying 12 rebounds, to go along with three assists and a block. The former La Farge HS athlete went 5 for 12 from the field and made 6 of 10 free throws. Marron has posted double-digit points in eight games this season, including in seven of the last eight outings. Freshmen
Lauren Thole and
Brianna Hendricks each added nine points, with Thole tying Marron for the team lead in assists and Hendricks collected a team-high five steals.
Madison College controlled the boards by a 42-29 differential, but committed ten more turnovers than the Kougars. The WolfPack was 20 for 53 (37%) overall, but struggled from long range with a 1 for 9 (11%) effort. They did convert 9 of 15 (60%) attempts at the free throw line.Â

Madison College (2-9) won't play a competitive game until the calendar flips to 2022, when they travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to take on Bay College (6-7) on Friday, January 7 and Gogebic Community College (1-7) on Saturday, January 8. The opener against the Norse will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs, while the WolfPack is 28-16 against the Samsons. Friday's game tips off at 5:00 p.m., and Saturday's is set for 2:00 p.m.
