MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College men's basketball team was unable to find enough defensive stops in the second half of a 78-61 loss to
eighth-ranked Rochester Community & Technical College on Tuesday night inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The WolfPack, who were tied with the Yellowjackets at halftime, now trail the all-time series by an 18-13 tally.
Neither team lead by more than four in a first half that featured ten ties and seven lead changes. Rochester Community & Technical College (2-1) rattled off five points to start the second half to secure a lead they would not relinquish. It remained a one possession game five minutes into the half when the Yellowjackets went on a 19-5 run to build a 64-48 advantage with seven minutes to play. The WolfPack was unable to trim the deficit to single digits after that.
Madison College saw ten different players score in the game, led by freshman forward
Keith Hoffman with a dozen points. The former Stevens Point Area SH athlete was 6 for 10 from the floor and also reeled in six rebounds.
A trio of reserves,
Jordan Boyd,
Tyler Haak, and
Trevon Liggins, all netted eight points off the bench. Freshman
Arrion Curothers registered six points and five steals, while fellow first year guard
Ma'Teo Holland pitched in with five points and five assists.
Both teams turned the ball over 12 times, however, the Yellowjackets took better advantage with a 17-3 lead in points off turnovers. The visitors also dominated the glass 40-29. Madison College boasted narrow edges in second chance points (8-4) and points in the points (38-36). The WolfPack finished the night shooting 47% (25-53) overall, went 4 of 15 (26%) from long range, and made just 7 of 18 (39%) at the stripe.
