Box Score COON RAPIDS, MINN. - A trip to Minnesota for an opportunity to play two games at the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Tournament ended with the Madison College men's basketball team returning with a 49-44 win over St. Cloud Technical & Community College on Friday and a canceled game against Anoka-Ramsey Community College on Saturday. The WolfPack, winners of four straight games, narrowed the gap in the all-time series with the Cyclones to 2-3.
Madison College erased an early five-point deficit over the game's first few minutes, and then saw nine lead changes and two ties the rest of the first half. Sophomores
Malcolm Reed and
Jordan Boyd hit jumpers in the final minutes, with Boyd's beating the first half buzzer, en route to a 25-23 lead for the WolfPack at the break. An early three-pointer to start the second half game the Cyclones the lead, and with four minutes left to play, SCTCC owned a 42-37 advantage. Madison College answered with a 12-2 run to close out the game. Freshman
Nik Feller put the 'Pack up one with 2:38 remaining, and with the margin still at a single point inside of a minute to play, first year forward
Keith Hoffman buried a huge three-pointer.Â
Feller finished as the only Madison College player in double-figures with 14 points on 4 of 12 shooting with one triple and a 5 for 6 day at the free throw line. The Poynette, Wisconsin, native also added five rebounds. Hoffman contributed eight points, including a pair of three-pointers, and led the team with nine rebounds and four steals. Reed was tops with four assists, and also added six points.
Madison College out-rebounded St. Cloud Tech (0-1) by a 52-43 margin, and used Feller's 14 points to generate a 23-4 edge in bench scoring. The Cyclones took advantage of 22 'Pack turnovers to generate a 16-6 lead in points off turnovers. Madison College shot 32% (19-59) overall and made 4 of 18 (22%) beyond the arc, while also hitting on 7 of 10 (70%) free throws.
The tournament was set to conclude Saturday with a game between Madison College and Anoka-Ramsey Community College, however, the game was canceled.
