WolfPack wallop Wombats to run win streak to three

Madison College nearly shoots 50%, dominates interior in lopsided win

MADISON, WISC. - Just about everything went right Wednesday night for the Madison College men's basketball team, who dismantled visiting UW-Sheboygan by an 89-55 final to push their current win streak to three straight games. The WolfPack enjoyed their most efficient shooting night and used their size advantage to dominate the interior en route to their sixth win in as many meetings with the Wombats. 

Madison College stormed out to a 9-1 lead, and used a 12-0 run to push the advantage to 23-7 more than midway through the first half. After Sheboygan (0-1) cut their deficit to six, the 'Pack used a Jordan Boyd three-pointer to start an 8-2 surge and end the half with a 39-25 edge. The second half saw the home team build upon their double-digit lead with runs of 17-6 and 11-2, and eventually led by as much as 36 before settling for the 34-point victory.

The WolfPack produced a 32-12 advantage in point in the paint, as well as a 13-4 lead in second chance points off 16 offensive rebounds, as they continued to attack the interior. They also took advantage of 20 UW-Sheboygan turnovers to amass a 22-11 differential in points off turnovers. Madison College's 30 for 62 (48%) shooting effort marked their best of the season, and included an 8 for 17 (47%) performance from long range. And the team set new season-high's for free throws made and attempted with a 21 for 34 tally. 

Freshman Logan Schultz paced a balanced offense with a career-high 15 points. The forward from Cross Plains, Wisconsin, was 6 of 8 from the floor and perfect on two attempts outside the arc. He also had seven rebounds. Second year guard Jordan Boyd also made 6 of 8 shots and established a new career-high in points with 13 off the bench. Fellow reserve Nik Feller poured in a dozen points and had a pair of triples as part of a 39-point effort by the Madison College bench. The former Poynette HS athlete was a perfect 6 for 6 at the line.

Starters Keith Hoffman and Telin Porter added 11 and ten points, respectively, with Hoffman also leading the team in rebounds with nine and Porter was tops with four steals. Sophomore guard Arrion Curothers dished out a team-leading five assists and had seven points.

Madison College (3-1) hits the road this weekend for the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Tournament on Friday and Saturday, November 12-13 in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. The WolfPack will play against St. Cloud Technical College (0-0) at 7:00 p.m. on the opening night, and follow with a 4:00 p.m. tip against the host Golden Rams (0-0) the next day. The 'Pack is 1-3 all-time against the Cyclones, and 5-5 in head-to-head meetings with ARCC. Both games can be streamed live here.
