WolfPack take #1 Rock Valley to the brink in upset bid

Five-set loss ends N4C win streak

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's volleyball team dug in their heels and held their ground Tuesday night, rallying from a two-sets-to-none deficit to force a decisive fifth set in a 3-2 loss to #1-ranked Rock Valley College inside H .Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The WolfPack, who are also receiving votes in the NJCAA Division III Poll, lost the North Central Community College Conference match by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 20-25, 20-25, 15-11, and were swept in the regular season series against the Golden Eagles for the first time since 2011. RVC has won four straight in the head-to-head series and now leads by a 43-28-1 margin.

Defensively, Madison College amassed 127 digs, their third highest total in a match this season. Offensively, the 'Pack continued its impressive service game with 14 aces for the fourth double-digit ace effort in the last five matches. They would hit at a .266 efficiency and register 54 kills. 

Sophomore libero Amelia Walton finished with 42 digs, matching a career-high that ranks third in program history. The former Verona Area HS athlete also served up four aces.

For the second consecutive match, outside hitter Jadyn Holman established a new career-best in kills, pounding out 24 kills and hitting a team-leading .383 attack percentage. The Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, native also registered a double-double with 18 digs. Middle blocker Calla Borchert reached 12 kills and hit at a .333 clip. 

Kaleia Lawrence paced the setter tandem with 23 assists, while Mariah Best had 20 helpers. Both players registered a double-double with 14 digs each. Best also led the team by matching a career-high seven aces. 

Aubrie Kappes was the last of five players with at least ten digs as the native of Marshall, Wisconsin, had 13 digs.

The WolfPack falls to 4-3 in N4C play and had their four-match league win streak ended. Rock Valley College improved to 7-0.

Madison College (11-11) steps back out of conference play on Friday with a rematch against Dakota County Technical College (7-7) on Friday, September 8. The Blue Knights defeated the WolfPack 3-1 on Saturday at their own triangular. First serve at the H .Douglas Redsten Gymnasium is set for 6:00 p.m.
