ROSEMOUNT, MINN. - Coming off a pair of big wins, and with quite possibly the biggest match of the season coming up next, the Madison College women's volleyball team traveled to Minnesota for the Dakota Country Technical College Triangular on Saturday. The WolfPack, who are receiving votes in the latest
NJCAA Division III Poll, opened with a 3-0 defeat of Mesabi Range Community & Technical College before falling 3-1 against the host Blue Knights. Both matches were the first meetings between the two programs.
Match #1: Madison College 3, Mesabi Range Community & Technical College 0
The WolfPack thoroughly dominated the Rangers with set wins of 25-10, 25-13, 25-7, giving the 'Pack their most lopsided sweep of the season. The team's 44 kills and 14 aces tie for second most in a three-set match this fall. Madison College hit better than .200 in every set and finished with a .257 attack percentage.
Seven different players registered a kill in the match, with five posting at least five kills.
Jadyn Holman, a 6'2" sophomore outside hitter had 14 kills and a .435 hitting efficiency. Second year right side/middle blocker
Olivia Marron racked up a season-best with nine kills on a team-leading .471 attack percentage.
Setters
Kaleia Lawrence and
Mariah Best nearly split the assists with 19 and 18, respectively. Both also had three aces to match
Calla Borchert for team-high honors.
Sophomore
Amelia Walton paced a dozen players with 21 digs.
Match #2: Dakota Country Technical College 3, Madison College 1
The following match proved to be a much better challenge, one the WolfPack simply didn't have enough fire power for in taking a 25-21, 27-29, 25-22, and 25-21 setback. Once again the team had 12 or more kills in each set, finishing with 50 in the match and a .179 percentage.
Jadyn Holman stayed aggressive and recorded a season-best 20 kills, to go along with 15 digs for the double-double.
Abigail Lewis, a Stoughton, Wisconsin, native was second with 12 kills and
Calla Borchert was next with 11. Borchert, a former Lake Mills HS athlete, was tops with a .571 efficiency and collected 11 digs for a double-double.
Kaleia Lawrence guided the offense and amassed 36 assists and two aces. The sophomore from the Upper Peninsula also tallied a double-double with 14 digs.
In all, six players surpassed the ten-dig mark in the win.
Amelia Walton was tops with 32. Defensive specialists
Abby Steinhauer and
Aubrie Kappes chased down 13 and 11 digs, respectively.

Madison College (11-10, 4-2) hosts
top-ranked Rock Valley College (21-5, 6-0) on Tuesday, September 5 inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles defeated the WolfPack by a 3-0 final in Illinois last month, however, the 'Pack has won four straight North Central Community College Conference matches and seven of their last night matches since then. RVC holds a commanding 42-28-1 lead in the all-time series. First serve is at 6:00 p.m.
