BYRON, ILL. & WHEATON, ILL. - The Madison College golf team will play 72 holes over five days to finish the Fall 2021, and that stretch got off to a solid start with a tie for fourth place at the Region 4 Classic on Friday and a head-to-head victory at the DuPage Match Play on Sunday. The WolfPack was one of three teams to shoot a 322 at
PrairieView Golf Club, and followed it up with a 15.5 to 5.5 victory over the Chaparrals at
Cantigny Golf.
Region 4 Classic
Under perfect playing conditions, teams and players throughout Region 4 gathered for a preview of the course on which they will compete for a chance to advance to their respective NJCAA national tournament. Madison College signed off on a 322 (+34) team total that matched the output of Carl Sandburg College and the College of DuPage Green in a tie for fourth place. Defending Region 4 Division II champion Bryant & Stratton College finished first with a 315 (+27) that was one shot better than Black Hawk College and Highland Community College Orange.
Freshman
Kaleb Lycke earned his first career top-ten finish with a four-over-par 76, his second best round of the season. The La Crosse, Wisconsin, native posted four birdies and eight pars en route to a two-way tie for sixth, one shot back of a five-way tie for first. Lycke shot rounds of 38 on both the front and the back nines.
Madison College then counted three rounds of ten-over 82 from first year players
Ben Busick,
Jake Rebholz, and
Matt Paulson. Busick and Paulson each went 41-41, while Rebholz posted nine-hole totals of 42-40. The trio was part of a six-way tie for 26th overall.Â
Tyler Dahl, the fifth freshmen playing for the WolfPack, registered a 90 (+18) to tie for 60th place out of 84 golfers. Yet another first year player,
Nicholas Kipp, competed as an individual and shot a 94 (+22).

DuPage Match Play
Sunday's dual with the College of DuPage featured a match play event using the Nassau format, in which player's earned points or half-points based on their per hole score, and the team could earn a point or half point based on the final counts for the front nine, back nine, and full 18 holes. When it was all said and done, the WolfPack defeated the Chaparrals by five points. Madison College lead 5.5 to 1.5 after the front nine and held a narrow 5.0 to 2.0 advantage on the back nine, and the final 18 hole scores yielded another 5.0 to 2.0 differential.
Jake Rebholz, a native of Verona, Wisconsin, and
Matt Paulson, a North Prairie, Wisconsin, product, each accumulated 3.0 full points. Rebholz won his match 4 & 3, while Paulson was a 5 & 3 victor.
Sophomore
Ryen Ryba played two simultaneous matches and won both with scores of 5 & 3 and 3 & 2, making the former Homestead HS athlete responsible for 6.0 total points.
Kaleb Lycke registered 2.5 points en route to winning his match 2 & 1.
Tyler Dahl was able to secure 1.0 point despite falling in a close 2 & 1 match.

Ben Busick lost a very close match 2 & 1 and was unable to pick up any points.Â

Madison College will finish out the Fall 2021 schedule with the two-day Viterbo V-Hawk Invitational at La Crosse Country Club in Onalaska, Wisconsin on Monday and Tuesday, October 4 and 5. Monday's round will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a 9:00 a.m. start on Tuesday.
