Madison College falters against Bryant & Stratton

Perez, Smyth tally goals with season finale set for Saturday

MADISON, WISC. - The penultimate match of the regular season ended in a 5-2 loss for the Madison College women's soccer team as they took on Region 4 and in-state foe Bryant & Stratton College on Wednesday at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The loss drops the WolfPack to 0-3 all-time in games against the Bobcats.

In a well-played match of two programs in Wisconsin, Madison College was able to strike first when All-American Angelina Perez took a Karmen Smyth pass and beat the Bobcats goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead in the 7'. The sophomore forward/midfielder from Madison, Wisconsin, has 16 goals to lead the WolfPack and rank in the top ten in the nation.

Bryant & Stratton College (4-5-1) responded immediately with a scoring strike past 'Pack goalkeeper Marin Stauffacher exactly 12 seconds later. The Bobcats made it a 2-1 game in the 43' and then added a third goal early in the second half.

Madison College continued to fight and got back into the game in the 60' thanks to Smyth. The freshman midfielder from Stoughton, Wisconsin, buried an unassisted goal and closed the deficit to just one. Smyth ranks second on the team with ten goals. Unfortunately, the WolfPack were unable to score again, while BSC pulled away with two more goals in the 67' and 84'.

The Bobcats controlled the soccer ball with twice as many total shots (16-7) and shots on goal (11-6). Stauffacher was credited with one save and three goals allowed, while freshman Hope McFarlin entered in the second half and surrendered two goals with five saves.
