MADISON, WISC. - Looking past the 701 days since their last true home match, the Madison College women's volleyball team focused on the task at hand and came through with yet another upset of a nationally-ranked team with Thursday's 3-0 sweep of #5-ranked College of DuPage. The WolfPack, playing their true home opener at
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium after 18 matches away to start the season, clipped the Chaparrals 25-23, 25-17, and 25-19 for their fourth consecutive win over a North Central Community College Conference opponent and their third straight over a team ranked in the
NJCAA Division III Poll.
Madison College took control of the match early thanks to seven service aces in the first set, including six aces in the first 12 points. The WolfPack dug deep down the stretch to claim the final two points after the College of DuPage (16-9, 4-2) rallied to even the score at 23-23. The second set was tightly contested when coach
Quinn Lukens took a timeout with his squad trailing 14-12, and the 'Pack responded with a 13-3 run to close out the set. In the third and final set, sophomore
Calla Borchert single-handedly turned a tied score into a comfortable lead with a block and five aces - four of which came consecutively - over the match's final dozen points.
