MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College men's basketball showed no quit Saturday inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, winning the second half of their North Central Community College Conference contest and eventually taking a 94-79 loss to six-time defending league champion Triton College. Four-players scored in double-digits to help the WolfPack outscore the Trojans, who are currently ranked #23 in the
NJCAA Division I Poll, by nine points in the second half.
Madison College jumped out to a 5-0 advantage before Triton College (16-4, 5-0) rattled off 11 straight points. After
Earl Lewis knocked down a long three to pull the 'Pack within three, the visitors put together a 10-0 run to build a double-digit lead. The runs continued throughout the first half with the WolfPack putting together six consecutive points, followed by an 11-0 surge by Triton. The second half started with a 24-point differential, which slowly grew to 31 points more than eight minutes in. From that point on Madison College outscored the Trojans 34-18, which was ignited by a 9-0 run.
Freshman
Jason Williams paced the WolfPack with 18 points and six rebounds. The Evansville, Indiana, native converted 8 of 14 shots with one 3-pointer and a free throw on his way to an eighth consecutive game with double-digit points.
Shooting guards
Marcus Kartes and Lewis each drained four shots from beyond the arc en route to 17 points a piece. Kartes, a 6'3" freshman, was 6 for 10 overall and 4 for 7 from long range, and now boasts three straight games with at least four made three-pointers. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native is hitting 47.3% of his shots from three-point territory, which ranks sixth in all of Region IV. Lewis, a 6'1" sophomore, went 6 for 14 from the field and was successful on 4 of 9 attempts from distance as he reached double-figures for the fourth time in five games.
Second year small forward
Shamar Newman rounded out the top scorers for the WolfPack with 13 points as he made 5 of 7 shots with a triple and a pair of free throws. He has reach ten or more points in eight of the past nine outings.
Madison College finished 32 of 62 (51.6%) overall, marking their second-highest field goal percentage in a game this season. For the second time this season the 'Pack did sink half of their long-range attempts, going 10 of 20 from distance for their sixth game with ten or more makes outside the arc. Madison College registered a 34-28 advantage in points in the paint, while the Trojans owned a 24-11 edge in points off turnovers.
The loss moves the all-time series to 26-2 in favor of the Trojans after they picked up their 20th straight victory against the WolfPack.

H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium for another week as they continue a four-game homestand on Wednesday, January 22 against in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College (19-1, 5-0). The WolfPack is 64-50 all-time against the Stormers, who swept the regular-season series last year and are currently ranked #2 in the NJCAA Division II Poll. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
