Early lead slips away as WolfPack earn 1-1 draw

Glackin finds net for first time this season, Kubicek makes double-digit saves

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team opened a busy weekend at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East with a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Region IV foe Elgin Community College on Friday. Sophomore Lillian Glackin netted the WolfPack's lone goal in the team's first draw of the season. The tie snaps the team's current two-match win streak, while also halting a streak of five consecutive wins over the Spartans. The all-time series now favors the 'Pack at 5-1-1.

Madison College and Elgin Community College (4-2-1) played most of the first half in a scoreless tie until the WolfPack was able to convert a goal for a 1-0 lead in the 38'. Glackin, a 5'4" midfielder, intercepted a pass in the defensive third and immediately fired a shot from 30 yards out that sailed just over the Spartan goalkeeper and bent right underneath the crossbar for her first goal of the season. The Moline, Illinois, native now has two career goals with the 'Pack.

The WolfPack maintained the 1-0 lead into halftime and for the first 15 minutes of the second half, however, in the 62' goalkeeper Kelly Kubicek was unable to stop Spartans' equalizer, marking just the fifth goal allowed this season for the sophomore. The Oregon, Wisconsin, native was perfect for the rest of the match, despite facing six more shots than her counterpart during the two overtime sessions. She finished with ten saves for her second match this season with double-digit saves.

The Spartans out-shot the WolfPack by a 21-14 margin, including a 12-8 edge in shots on goal. Madison College had five corner kicks to just one for the visitors. Glackin and freshman defender Mackenzie Bielicki tied for team-high honors with three total shots, while Glackin and fellow second year players Anna Cappaert and Kaitlyn Clapper each had two shots on goal.
