MADISON, WISC. - For the second time in three games, freshman
Mackenzie Bielicki played the role of hero with a game-winning goal to decide a 2-1 decision over Illinois Valley Community College on Sunday at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The WolfPack is now 4-0 all-time against the Eagles.
All three goals in the match were scored in the first half, starting with a 20' kick from sophomore
Jenna Kohrt. After a defensive steal, Kohrt found herself with the ball and open for a clean shot straight away from the goal. The successful kick was her fifth of the year.
Illinois Valley Community College (4-2) netted the equalizer in the 37' against sophomore goalkeeper
Kelly Kubicek, however, the score only remained tied for seven minutes. That's when Bielicki chased down a well-placed lead pass from fellow freshman
Emma Strieker as she got behind the defense. Bielicki, a native of Findlay, Ohio, has two goals this season that both turned into game-winning goals. Strieker, a Janesville, Wisconsin, native, registered her second assist of the season.
Neither team was able to find the net in the second half, thanks in part to four total saves by Kubicek. Madison College finished with 23-5 lead in total shots and an 11-5 margin in shots on goal. The home team was also plus five in corner kicks.
