Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Guzman game-winner sends WolfPack to third straight win

Shutout win for LaFlash, Madison College continue impressive homestand

MADISON, WISC. - The lone goal scored in Wednesday's 1-0 win over North Central Community College Conference rival Rock Valley College at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East demonstrated just how far the Madison College men's soccer team has come in less than a month. After starting the season 0-2-2 and scoring just one goal in 400 minutes of game action, the WolfPack played unselfish soccer and saw five different people touch the ball in the span of 15 seconds to set up Pablo Guzman for a successful scoring strike. In addition, sophomore goalkeeper Saxon LaFlash posted the four shutout by a Madison College 'keeper already this season. The win give the 'Pack a three-game win streak on the year, while also extending a win streak over RVC eight games. The head-to-head series stands at 10-2-1.

Neither team allowed a goal through the game's first 45 minutes, but Madison College changed all of that early in the second half. With precision passing and meticulous dribbling, the WolfPack worked the ball diagonally from the halfway line to the just inside the penalty area where Guzman lifted a kick past the Rock Valley College (3-3-1, 1-3) goalkeeper and just inside the near post. The freshman midfield from Delavan, Wisconsin, was credited with his fourth goal of the season, and fellow first year forward Samuka Toure picked up his first career assist. Guzman also now leads the WolfPack in total points with nine.

Madison College was able to preserve the one-goal lead the rest of the night with stellar play between the pipes and along the back line. LaFlash, a former Madison Memorial High School athlete, made four saves en route to his second clean sheet of the season. He has a team-high 19 saves on the season, and owns a save percentage of 0.731 and a goals against average of 1.71.

The two teams will play again in the regular season finale on October 12 in Rockford, Illinois.
