Second half goals lift Madison College to season-opening victory over #10 ARCC

Sophomores Kohrt, Raemisch find the net as Kubicek earns shutout

COON RAPIDS, MINN. - A scoreless game into the second half quickly turned in favor of the Madison College women's soccer team as they defeated Anoka-Ramsey Community College by a 2-0 final in Sunday's 2019 season opener. The WolfPack netted a pair of goals within the first nine minutes of the second half to take down the Golden Rams, who were ranked #10 in the NJCAA Division II Preseason Poll.

Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the game's first 45 minutes. The WolfPack were out-gunned by an 11-6 margin in shots during the first half. Those numbers flipped in the second half as the 'Pack went on the offensive. Less than two minutes into the second half, sophomore Jenna Kohrt converted a pass from fellow second year Mary Raemisch to put the visitors on top. The goal is the second of Kohrt's career and the first since the former Monona Grove High School athlete also scored in the season opener last year against Rock Valley College.

Seven minutes later, Raemisch, a product of Lodi, Wisconsin, added some insurance for the WolfPack an unnassisted goal that is her first of the season and ninth of her career.

Second year goalkeeper Kelly Kubicek and the defense took care of the rest in keeping the Golden Rams (0-1) without a goal. The Oregon, Wisconsin, native made 12 saves and picked up her ninth career shutout.

The win extends a streak of season-opening wins for the 'Pack to five straight years, and gives Madison College a 2-1 lead in the head-to-head series with ARCC.
