Madison College women's basketball coach
Lois Heeren announced Monday one of the largest incoming groups in program history, as 13 players are likely to join the WolfPack roster for the 2019-20 season. The group includes Kyianna Baker (Stoughton, WI), Julia Bruns (Cottage Grove, WI), Aireyanna Conners (Madison, WI), Lillian Dorman (Madison, WI), Kylie Esser (Highland, WI), Justice Filip (Madison, WI), Brina James (Verona, WI), Hailey Kaenel (Montello, WI), Olivia Marron (La Farge, WI), Ceraya Morel (Marshall, WI), Celia Space (Crandon, WI), Mrylena Stewart (Madison, WI), Amber Sue Udelhoven (Potosi, WI), Karlee Van Gysel (Fall River, WI).
Kyianna Baker was a two-year varsity performer for the Stoughton Vikings. The 5'8" wing averaging 5.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.5 steals during her career.
"Kyianna will bring quickness and speed to our team with her athleticism on both ends of the floor. She will make an immediate contribution for the WolfPack."
Julia Bruns was a three-year contributor for the Monona Grove Silver Eagles varsity team, which won the Badger South Conference crown her senior year. A 5'10" shooting guard, Bruns tallied 5.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.1 assists over her career.Â
"Julia will bring an inside-and-outside threat to the WolfPack program. She brings a winning mentality and work ethic to the hardwood and in the classroom. We are excited for her to continue playing at Madison College."
Kylie Esser was a two-time all-conference selection in the Six Rivers-West Conference. The 5'7" guard averaged a double-double of 13.3 points and 10.2 rebounds as a junior, and followed 10.0 and 9.4 averages, respectively, in her final season for the Highland Cardinals.Â
"Kylie is a great addition to the WolfPack family. She can score from multiple ways on the floor. A very strong defender that can defend on the perimeter."
Hailey Kaenel was twice a all-conference recipient in the Trailways-West Conference during her four-year varsity career with the Montello Hilltoppers. The 5'8" wing raised her scoring average by nearly 14 full points to reach 18.5 per game as a senior, to go along with 3.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 steals.Â
"Hailey has a great offensive skill set that will be key for the WolfPack. She sees the floor well, involves her teammates and works hard on both ends of the floor."
Ceraya Morel won back-to-back WIAA Division 3 State Championships with the Marshall Cardinals. The 5'4" guard averaged 4.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.5 steals during her three-year varsity career.Â
"We are excited to have Ceraya join the WolfPack family. She understands what it takes to be a champion, and as a point guard, she has great court vision and puts her teammates in a position to score. Also, a very tough defender and a great communicator."
Amber Sue Udelhoven was a two-time all-conference selection in the Six Rivers-West Conference after registering 11.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.1 steals over her two years with the Potosi/Cassville Chieftains. The 5'6" guard, who played varsity as a sophomore at Fennimore High School, was named a WBCA All-Star and is also the younger sister of former WolfPack guard
Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven.Â
"Amber Sue is a very strong guard who attacks hard off the dribble. She can extend the defense with her 3-point shooting, as well. Looking forward in having her in a WolfPack uniform."
Karlee Van Gysel helped lead the Fall River Pirates to the WIAA Division 5 State Tournament as a senior and a Trailways-West Conference crown as a junior and sophomore. The three-time all-conference pick, including first team honors as a junior, posted career averages of 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.4 steals over a four-year varsity career.Â
"Karlee will bring a championship mindset with her to Madison College. She has the ability to create her own shot, distribute the ball well to her teammates, and take it off the dribble. We are excited for her to be in a WolfPack uniform."
Aireyanna Conners transfers in to Madison College after a year playing at NCAA Division II Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia. The 5'6" guard saw action in ten games and tallied ten points on the season. The former four-year varsity player for the Madison East Purgolders scored 6.7 points per game during her prep career.
Lillian Dorman transfers in from NJCAA Division III Hibbing Community College in Hibbing, Minnesota. In 2017-18, she averaged 4.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Cardinals. Dorman played her prep ball at Madison East High School, where she contributed 2.6 points per game over her two years on varsity.
Justice Filip returns to her hometown after a year at NJCAA Division II Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she was just a student. The 5'7" guard was a four-time all-conference pick in the Big Eight Conference, including first team accolades as a senior. The former Madison East Purgolders standout scored in double-figures in all four years on varsity and was one of the top long-range shooters in the state.Â
Brina James transfers to Madison College from NJCAA Division I Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she appeared in 23 games and scored 23 points on the season. The 6'0" guard/forward was a two-year varsity player for the Verona Wildcats, posting 6.3 points per game as a prep.
Olivia Marron played volleyball at Madison College in the Fall 2017 after a stellar three-sport high school career at La Farge. The 5'10" wing player was a three-time all-conference selection and was named Co-Player of the Year in basketball as a senior in the Ridge & Valley Conference after averaging 16.4 points and 7.6 rebounds in her final prep season. She was named to the WBCA All-Star Game.
Celia Space played three-years of varsity at Crandon High School, averaging a high of 11.8 points and 6.4 rebounds as a senior. A three-time all-conference honoree in the Northern Lakes Conference, Space helped the Cardinals to back-to-back league titles as a sophomore and junior. She spent 2018-19 as a practice player for the WolfPack.
Mrylena Stewart comes to Madison College following a year playing at NJCAA Division II Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa. The 5'0" guard averaged 9.0 points, 1.1 assists, and 1.1 rebounds over 27 games played. As a prep player, she contributed on the varsity team at Madison Memorial High School for three years.
"We are excited to have a number of transfers also join the WolfPack family. Not only do they bring playing experience, but they also understand what it takes to be a champion in the classroom, as well as on the court. They bring unique skill sets that will compliment one another, as well as raise the level of play on both ends of the floor. More importantly, I look forward to each one of them helping our first year players with the transition in the classroom and on the court."
