GRAYSLAKE, ILL. - For just the third time this season, the Madison College baseball team was shut out in a 4-0 loss at Region IV opponent College of Lake County on Sunday. The
#12-ranked WolfPack not been held without a run since their second and third games of the season when they lost a pair of 1-0 games at Scottsdale Community College. The setback means the 'Pack and Lancers will split their regular season series for a second consecutive season after Madison College won a nine-inning game at home by a
6-5 final on April 16. The all-time series stands at 27-5 in favore of the WolfPack. Sunday's games were originally scheduled as a doubleheader, however, weather conditions limited the two teams to a single game of seven innings, which started 90 minutes later than planned.
College of Lake County (21-7) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when WolfPack starter
Andy Neu loaded the bases on a single and two walks, and then hit a batter to force in a run. The deficit grew to 2-0 third, and then 4-0 in the sixth after a two-run sacrifice bunt followed a pair of errors.
Madison College had a chance to score in their half of the second with two runners on and two out, but freshman outfielder
Jordan Williams went down swinging. They would not get another base runner until the sixth when sophomore
Nick Gile picked up the team's third hit of the day and his second in the game. The other was by second year catcher
Lucas Trebian.Â
Neu (2-1) worked five innings and was tagged for two runs, though only one was earned. The Kewaskum, Wisconsin, native limited the Lancers to just three hits, but also walked three batters and hit two more. He recorded one strikeout before giving way to fellow freshman
Jackson Brown for the final inning, which saw Brown allow two unearned runs.Â
