WolfPack fight to keep win streak alive, stay atop N4C

11 K day for Foldy highlights sweep at College of DuPage

GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - The Madison College baseball team kept its perfect North Central Community College Conference record in tact, and extended its current win streak, with a pair of road wins on Friday at the College of DuPage. The WolfPack, who are receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, used a three-run inning in each game to pull out victories of 3-1 and 6-3. Winners of 13 straight and 21 of their last 22 games, the 'Pack now has a 27-4-1 all-time record over the Chaparrals, including back-to-back doubleheader sweeps.

Game #1: Madison College 3, College of DuPage 1 (7 innings)

Madison College pitching controlled the day's opening contest, with sophomore starter Troy Hickey (2-1) holding the College of DuPage to one run on three hits and two walks in six-plus innings. The lefthander from Wilmot Union High School set down a career-high 11 batters with a strikeout before giving way to freshman Eliot Turnquist in the seventh. The righty earned his fifth save as he entered with the tying run at the plate and was able to close the door on the Chaparrals.

The WolfPack tallied all three of their runs in the top of the third. With the bases loaded and one out, sophomore Nick Gile hit a sacrifice fly to right field that broke a scoreless game, and was followed by a two-run double from fellow second year Adam LaRock.

Five players registered a hit for the WolfPack, paced by sophomore left fielder Carl Valk's 2 for 4 effort.

Game #2: Madison College 6, College of DuPage 3 (7 innings)

The nightcap started with the College of DuPage (21-14-1, 8-4) putting the game's first run on the board, doing so in the bottom of the first against starter Patrick Foldy thanks to two singles, a walk, and an error. Two singles and a walk produced a run in the top of the second, as well, with the WolfPack's Carson Holin driving in Adam LaRock to even the score. Three straight singles in the fourth loaded the bases and a Carl Valk fielder's choice gave the visitors a 1-0 lead as Nathan Aide was able to run home. The lead was short-lived, with the Chaparrals tying it up again in the home half.

The game really turned in the fifth. A lead-off walk was followed by a Nick Gile RBI double to center to put the 'Pack on top for good. Aide made it a three-run lead with a two-run double a few batters later, scoring LaRock and Jarrett Scheelk. Each team added a run in the sixth, with Madison College's coming on a Scheelk ground ball through the right side to plate Eliot Turnquist.

Turnquist would eventually come in to pitch with a two on and noboby out in the seventh, and the freshman set down the next three batters to grab his fourth consecutive save and sixth of the season. He struck out two after taking over for Jackson Brown, who worked two innings and gave up one run on six hits and a K in relief. Foldy (5-1) has won five straight starts and went four strong innings with one earned run on four hits, one walk, and six strikeouts.

The two teams combined for 21 hits, while three WolfPack bats produced two hits apiece. LaRock, Aide, and Holin each picked up a pair of base knocks. LaRock, an Eau Claire, Wisconsin, native scored a team-leading two runs, Aide, a former Franklin High School athlete, drove in a team-high two runs, and Holin, a freshman from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, reached safely in four plate appearances as he also drew a pair of walks.
