ELGIN, ILL. - The Madison College baseball team put together a dominating effort in earning a pair of five inning wins at Region IV opponent Elgin Community College on Saturday, Aside from one monster inning, the day's first game was evenly played before the WolfPack took an 11-0 victory, which carried over into a 17-1 thrashing of the NJCAA Division III Spartans in the finale. The two wins give the 'Pack a five-game win streak over Elgin CC, and improved their advantage in the all-time series to 28-19.
Game #1: Madison College 11, Elgin Community College 0 (5 innings)
Despite putting runners on base during the first two innings, neither team was able to push across a single run, however, that all changed in the top of the third when the WolfPack amassed a season-high 11 runs in a single frame thanks to ten hits, two walks, and two errors. Each of the first four batters reached with a base hit, the last of which was a two-run double by sophomore
Jarrett Scheelk. An error on the play made it 3-0. The innings second error put two runners on for second year catcher
Lucas Trebian, who roped a double to right to make it a 5-0 lead. A wild pitch pushed the advantage to a half-dozen, and centerfielder
Carl Valk's RBI single through the right side made it a seven-run differential with only one out on the board. After a pitching change, Madison College tacked on with a two-run single by sophomore
Adam LaRock, a
Nathan Aide line drive up the middle that plated another, and, finally, Trebian's sacrifice fly to right.
Meanwhile, sophomore starter
Matt Hamilton was cruising on the hill en route to his fifth straight win in as many outings. The righthander tossed all five innings and scattered three hits and a pair of walks, while also striking out a season-best eight batters to fall one shy of matching a career-high.
Six different WolfPack batters enjoyed multiple hits in the game. LaRock, a product of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Valk and Aide each had two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Jenkins and Gile both posted two hits and two runs scored, while Scheelk had two base knocks, two runs driven in, and another run scored. Trebian led all players with three RBI, and also scored a run with his 1 for 3 effort.
Game #2: Madison College 17, Elgin Community College 1 (5 innings)
Instead of one big inning like in the opener, Madison College scored runs in all five innings, including multiple runs in four of them, to pull away quickly from Elgin Community College (15-17). The 'Pack opened with a four-spot in the first, using five hits, a walk, and an error. Sophomore outfielder
Nathan Aide smashed a double to right with the bases loaded to turn a one-run game into a 3-0 contest before freshman
Carson Holin's sacrifice fly scored Aide. In the second,
Jarrett Scheelk and
Lucas Trebian each produced a RBI double to left to make it 6-0. The Spartans notched their lone run in the bottom of the second, but the WolfPack answered with three runs in the third to make it 9-1. Second year middle infielders Walkers Jenkins and
Nick Gile hit back-to-back run-scoring singles and an Elgin error allowed the Gile to cross home as the inning's final run. A bases-loaded walk made it a 10-1 game in the fourth, and a seven-run fifth puth the game away for good. Holin,
Pierson Gibis, Jenkins, Gile,
Luke Malmanger, and
Henry Henk all picked up a RBI.
Once again, six different Madison College players registered two hits in the game. Jenkins, a native of Sun Prarie, Wisconsin, was 2 for 3 with a team-high three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, native used his 2 for 3 effort to produce a team-best three runs and two RBI. Scheelk and Aide each posted two hits, two runs, and two runs driven in, while Holin's two runs and two RBI came off a hit and a walk.
Not to be outdone, sophomore
Troy Hickey (1-1) limited the Spartans to a single run on three his and four walks in his four innings as the starting pitcher. The former Wilmot Union High School athlete matched a career-best with eight K's. Freshman
Connor Jasurda worked the final frame, striking out a pair of hitters as he went 1-2-3 to close out the win.

Madison College (16-7) will take on Region IV foe Kankakee Community College (24-13-2) on Sunday, April 14. The WolfPack took two out of three games from the Cavaliers last year and are 18-17 all-time against KCC. The doubleheader at Robin Roberts Field is set for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch.
