WolfPack's Williams, Lee take home postseason accolades

Duo led WolfPack in scoring, to second place in N4C and Region IV

The tandem of Aniah Williams and Shaquita Lee proved to a formidable force during the second half of the 2018-19 season, so much so that both were recognized with postseason honors from the North Central Community College Conference (N4C) and NJCAA Region IV following the conclusion of the regular season. Williams, a freshman guard, was named first team all-conference and all-region, while Lee, a sophomore guard, was selected all-region and second team all-conference. The awards are the first such honors for both Williams and Lee, and makes this the third year in a row that the Madison College women's basketball team has placed at least two individuals on each postseason list. Williams also earned an All-American nomination as one of the top three vote-getters in the region.

Williams, a native of Beloit, Wisconsin, owns averages of 23.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 1.9 assists over 26 games played, leading the team in points and steals per game for the whole season. Her 585 points currently sit tied for fourth most in a single season in program history. Williams scored in double-figures in every game this season, and surpassed 20 points on 15 occasions, with a program record 41 points on January 26 against Joliet Junior College. Offensively, the 5'8" guard made more field goals, three-pointers, and free throws than anyone else on the team, shooting 42% overall, 29% from long range, and 59% at the stripe. She made multiple 3's in 13 games, and hit four or more from beyond the arc six times. The former Beloit Memorial High School athlete currently ranks 13th in the nation in scoring, which puts her tops in Region IV Division III. She was named NJCAA DIII Player of the Week for January 21-27 and picked up three Region IV Player of the Week awards.

Lee, a Madison, Wisconsin, native, was a stat sheet stuffer after joining the team at the semester break, putting up 22.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 4.4 steals a game over 13 outings. The 5'8" transfer from Sauk Valley Community College led the WolfPack in assists and tallied 20 points or more nine times, including a career-high with 36 points against Triton College on February 13. Lee also registered five double-double performances, including an 18-rebound effort in that same game against the Trojans the tied for 7th most in a single game in program history. She posted shooting percentages of 46% from the floor, 25% from three, and 72% at the charity stripe. Lee was named Region IV Player of the Week for February 9-16.

"I am extremely happy for both Aniah and Shaquita on their all-conference and all-region awards, as they are both gifted and fierce competitors and have been a tremendous asset to our team," said head coach Lois Heeren of her sixth and seventh players to earn both honors at Madison College during her tenure. "Aniah is a very athletic player who has developed her game over the course of the season, and I am proud of what she has accomplished in her first season.  Her ability to stretch the defense with her three-point shooting or utilize her quickness to take someone off the dribble is pretty special as a freshman. Shaquita has a tremendous skill set that has really progressed with each game she has played. What is unique about Shaquita is she can dominate a game, but also makes everyone around her better. Her vision on the court is really amazing."

Williams, Lee, and the WolfPack will begin postseason play on Saturday, February 23 with a Region IV Division III Semifinal against Elgin Community College. The second-seeded WolfPack is 19-7 - one win shy of their sixth consecutive 20-win season - and the third-seeded Spartans are 22-8. The 'Pack defeated Elgin 66-59 earlier this season. Tip off is at 2:00 p.m. at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois.
