WolfPack lose as Triton claims N4C title

Nathaniel Buss made 5 of teams dozen 3's as 'Pack prepare for home finale Saturday

MADISON, WISC. - In a second matchup against last year's NJCAA Division II National Champions, the Madison College men's basketball team showed vast improvement in cutting their margin of defeat in half with a 113-90 setback against Triton College on Wednesday at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. With the win, the Trojans clinched their sixth consecutive North Central Community College Conference championship. Madison College also used Wednesday's game to celebrate Black History Month and donned special black shooting shirts.

Despite falling behind 15-3 in the game's first three-plus minutes, Madison College used a 17-5 run that ended with 11 straight points from sophomore Nathaniel Buss to close the gap to two. The teams traded several mini-runs over the next few minutes before NJCAA Division I Triton College (25-2, 13-0) slowly built a 61-43 advantage at the half. The deficit grew to as big as 33 midway through the second half until the 'Pack finished strong and outscored the Trojans by a 32-22 differential.

Buss, a native of Verona, Wisconsin, posted his second-highest scoring game of the season with 26 points, which also marks his fourth game of 20 or more points in 2018-19. The 5'11" guard made 5 of 8 three-pointers as part of an 8 for 14 effort overall and knocked down all five free throw attempts.

Jalen Addison, another sophomore guard, made seven shots overall with three coming from long range, as well as a pair of free throws, en route to 19 points. The transfer from Parkland College (IL) also led the 'Pack with six assists and grabbed six rebounds.

Adam Anhold and Sean Suchomel rounded out the double-digit scorers for Madison College with 17 and 11 points, respectively. Suchomel also had seven rebounds, one shy of fellow Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native DeAngelo Jones' team-high eight boards.

The WolfPack committed half as many turnovers as Triton and boasted a 12-5 edge in points off turnovers. For the game they shot 37% (30-81) from the floor, 44% (12-27) from distance, and 72% (18-25) at the charity stripe.
