High-scoring guard trio not enough against #9 RVC

Sophomore guards combine for 59 points as win streak ends

MADISON, WISC. - Looking to extend their current win streak to a season-high five games, the Madison College men's basketball team ran into a familiar adversary and dropped an 82-72 contest to Rock Valley College in North Central Community College Conference play on Monday. Jalen Addison, Sean Suchomel, and Nathaniel Buss combined to score 59 points against the 9th-ranked Golden Eagles, who swept the regular season series for the first time in three years. The loss also ended a four-game win streak for the WolfPack, who trail the all-time series by a 32-16 margin.

Tied at 22 more than halfway through the first half, Rock Valley College (18-6, 8-4) surged ahead with a 10-0 run and Madison College answered with nine straight points. The visitors ended the half with eight of the final ten points for a 40-33 edge at the break. The WolfPack slowly closed in on the Golden Eagles, and tied the game 55-55 on an Addison basket with ten minutes to play. Freshman Bryce Moore followed with a jumper to put the 'Pack ahead, but RVC responded with a 14-0 burst to go up double-digits. The home team closed to within eight twice in the final minutes, but could never get any closer.

Addison, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, buried three 3-pointers as part of a 10 for 20 effort overall to reach 20 or more points for a sixth time this season. He also finished with a team-leading six rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Buss finished 8 of 14 with a pair of triples en route to 19 points, his highest scoring total since the calendar flipped to 2019. Suchomel added 13 points, which included a team-best 6 for 7 mark at the free throw line.

The WolfPack shot 40% (26-64) overall, made 7 of 19 (36%) three-point tries, and went 13 for 21 (62%) at the charity stripe. Madison College was beaten 45-27 on the glass and 46-28 in points in the paint. The home team did secure an 18-11 edge in points off turnovers after forcing 19 miscues by RVC.
