'Pack stays hot in home victory over Lake County

Sophomore Stewart pours in 17 points in second game with Madison College

MADISON, WISC. - In a game that featured 67 combined turnovers, the Madison College women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in defeating NJCAA Division II College of Lake County by a 72-53 final Tuesday night at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Three players scored in double-figures for the WolfPack, including career-high point totals for sophomores - and former Madison East High School teammates - Mrylena Stewart and Lilly Dorman, to push their current win streak to four straight games. The 'Pack is now 6-2 all-time against the Lancers and have wins in the last four meetings.

Madison College raced out to a 10-0 lead to set the tone for the evening. Ahead by nine to start the second quarter, the home team used an 8-0 run to boost the lead to 17 before the College of Lake County (2-4) clawed back to a 30-19 halftime deficit with seven straight points to end the half. A balanced third quarter saw the Madison College maintain a double-figure advantage before slowly pulling away for the 19-point win.

Sophomore guard Aniah Williams once again paced the 'Pack with a 20-point effort, her second of the season. The Beloit, Wisconsin, native, drained 8 of 18 shots with a pair of three-pointers and a 2 for 4 mark at the free throw line. Williams also had three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Two other second year players posted their highest scoring outputs of their career, as Mrylena Stewart poured in 17 points and Lilly Dorman registered 14 points. Stewart, playing in just her second game with the WolfPack after transferring from NJCAA Division II Southeastern Community College (IA), was good on 6 of 7 shots overall and both of her attempts from long range, as well as 3 of 4 free throws in a reserve role. Dorman, a transfer from NJCAA DIII Hibbing Community College (MN) made 7 of her 11 field goal attempts, while also leading the team with seven rebounds and three steals.

Madison College posted its best shooting performance of the season, knocking down 48.4% (30-62) of their overall shots. The WolfPack, however, did commit a season-high 35 turnovers, three more than the visiting Lancers, yet the home team flipped those numbers into a narrow 27-25 edge in points off turnovers. Madison College did control the glass by a 45-28 margin, which led to a 10-7 lead in second chance points and contributed to a 38-22 differential in points in the paint.
