OT winner clinches share of third straight N4C championship

Bielicki nets golden goal to ignite celebration for #8 WolfPack

GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - The Madison College women's soccer team needed a win or a tie to clinch at least a share of a third straight North Central Community College Conference championship, and they got exactly that in very dramatic fashion Wednesday night. Still scoreless at the end of regulation with the College of DuPage, the WolfPack would tally their second golden goal win of the season on a successful kick by freshman Mackenzie Bielicki. Coach Matt Schwartz and the WolfPack, who jumped up a spot to #8 in the NJCAA Division III Poll, have now won conference titles in half of the years the program has been in existence. Madison College becomes the first school to three-peat in the N4C since the Chaparrals pulled off the feat from 2009-2011.

Madison College controlled the match throughout the first half, but despite an 11-2 advantage in total shots that included a 7-2 edge in shots on goal, neither team was able to put a tally on the scoreboard. The College of DuPage (3-6, 3-5) played a more competitive second half and held a 4-2 lead in shots on goal. Still, both goalkeepers were up to the challenge and sent the game to extra time even at 0-0.

With the first overtime session just over two minutes old, Madison College went on the attack and sophomore midfielder Jenna Kohrt found Bielicki with a pass that the first year defender punch into the back of the net for game-winner. Bielicki, a native of Findlay, Ohio, has proven to be quite clutch during her first collegiate season, with all three of her goals coming in the form of game-winners. For Kohrt, the assist was her third of the year and added to her team-leading 42 total points.

Kelly Kubicek, the WolfPack's sophomore goalkeeper, racked up her seventh shutout of the season behind a five-save effort. The former Oregon High School athlete now sits a shutout short of tying the single season shutouts mark held by her and Brandie Gospodarek.

Kohrt triggered a team-high six shots, followed by five from freshmen Lydia Webster and Bielicki. Webster put the most shots on goal with four.

The win gives the 'Pack a regular-season sweep of the Chaparrals and a six-match win streak in the head-to-head series, which is now 9-6 in favor of COD.

The all-time series stands at 6-4-1 in favor of RVC, who needs a win at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East to keep their hopes of earning a share of the N4C crown alive. Saturday's match will also be Sophomore Day, with Madison College recognizing the commitment and sacrifice of the nine-member second year Class of 2019. The ceremony will take place prior to kickoff.
