ROCKFORD, ILL. - A second straight game against a nationally ranked North Central Community College Conference opponent resulted in a second straight loss for the Madison College women's basketball team as they fell 88-66 at Rock Valley College on Saturday. The WolfPack, who had won ten consecutive games prior to league play, struggled in the second quarter to fall behind by double digits en route to a fifth straight loss against the Golden Eagles, currently ranked #5 in the
NJCAA Division III Poll.
Madison College trailed by just six after the first ten minutes of play, but was outscored 27-15 in the second quarter to take an 18-point deficit into halftime. Any thought of a rally was quickly put to rest in the third quarter when Rock Valley College (11-5, 2-0) dominated the 'Pack by a 22-10 differential to lead 68-38. The WolfPack shot 38% with 28 makes on 73 overall attempts, while also going 7 for 24 (29%) from long range and 3 for 9 (33%) at the free throw line. The Golden Eagles posted a 46% shooting effort by going 37 of 79, including 8 for 19 (42%) from beyond the arc and 6 of 11 (54%) at the stripe. The home team also held significant advantages in points off turnovers (22-8) and second chance points (13-6), while also controlling the glass by a 50-35 margin.
Freshman
Aniah Williams racked up 29 points, giving her a 30.5 scoring average in the last two outings. The 5'8" guard finished 12 for 26 from the field and made 3 of her 11 three-point attempts, to go along with a 2 for 7 day at the free throw line. Williams added five rebounds and a steal to her stat line.

Shaquita Lee converted 10 of 28 shots with a pair of triples and a free throw for 23 points, giving the Madison, Wisconsin, native a 25.5 points per game average in 2019. The sophomore reeled in seven boards, while also leading the team with four assists and four steals.
Second year players
Tianna Sackett and
Caitlyn Gilbertson were the only other players to score for the 'Pack, adding nine and five points, respectively. The duo also combined for 17 rebounds, led by Gilbertson's team-best nine boards. She also rejected two shots.
Madison, Wisconsin, native Kalea Kruser had 18 points, eight rebounds, and five assists to lead RVC, which has won 17 of the last 20 meetings and owns a 21-18 lead in the all-time series.

Madison College (10-5, 0-2) opens a two-game homestand with a Wednesday, January 9 contest against Harper College (1-16, 0-2). The Hawks have dropped seven straight games since picking up their only win of the season and have not won against the WolfPack since the 2010-11 season. Madison College is 14-2 all-time against Harper and riding a 12-game win streak. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
