MILWAUKEE, WISC. - The Madison College women's basketball team proved fast learners on Wednesday night, using an impressive fourth quarter to earn a 76-61 win at Milwaukee Area Technical College just four days after a dismal fourth quarter handed
Lois Heeren's team a loss. Freshman
Aniah Williams scored 32 points for the second time this season and two others finished with double-doubles giving the WolfPack the win in the 85th all-time meeting between the two in-state rivals. The 'Pack has won three of its last four contests and has 72 wins over the Stormers.
Trailing 22-17 after the game's first ten minutes, Madison College outscored the now NJCAA Division II Milwaukee Area Technical College (5-15, 2-4) by a four in the second quarter to pull within 35-34 at the half. Still tied after three quarters, the WolfPack dominated the fourth by a 26-10 margin to pick up the 15-point victory following a three-point fourth quarter the previous Saturday at Triton College. The visitors turned 25 Stormers' turnovers into a 29-12 differential in points off turnovers and were plus-seven on the glass in a game that featured four lead changes and seven ties.
Madison College converted 28 of 73 (38%) field goal tries and 6 of 22 (27%) attempts from three-point range. While MATC-Milwaukee posted similar numbers, the WolfPack took full advantage of the charity stripe with 14 makes in 20 tries (70%) compared to just four made free throws on 12 attempts (33%).
Williams led the 'Pack in scoring for the 11th time this season by matching a career-best point total thanks to 12 of 28 shooting that featured four 3's and four free throws. The native of Beloit, Wisconsin, is the owner of eight 20-plus-point performances in the team's last 11 games to bring her season average to 21.0 points a game.
Sophomore transfer
Shaquita Lee stuffed her stat sheet with 15 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists to narrowly miss out on her first career triple-double. In addition to dishing out the most helpers, she also matched Williams for the team-lead in steals with three.
Two others not only reached double-figures, but each registered a double-double in the process. Sophomore guard
Tianna Sackett went for 11 points and 12 rebounds, while second year forward
Caitlyn Gilbertson contributed ten points and 12 boards for her second double-double in the past three games.
