GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - Behind a high-powered offensive attack, the Madison College women's volleyball team enjoyed a successful 3-0 weekend at the College of DuPage Chaparral Invitational. The weekend started with a no contest ruling in a scheduled match against Kishwaukee College on Friday after the Kougars failed to show up. The #8 WolfPack then followed with a 3-1 win over the host Chaparrals, and returned Saturday for a 3-0 defeat of new in-state foe Bryant & Stratton College and a 3-1 victory over longtime rival Rock Valley College. The matches against DuPage and Rock Valley did not count towards the North Central Community College Conference standings.
Match #1: #8 Madison College 3, College of DuPage 1 (Friday, 5:00 p.m.)
A back-and-forth match ended with Madison College claiming a four-set win with scores of 25-23, 26-24, 22-25, 25-15. The opening set was tight throughout, while the second set saw Madison College turn in a run of six points and two three-point rallies before breaking a 24-all tie with back-to-back points. After dropping the third set despite a chance to close out the sweep, the 'Pack put the hammer down in the fourth. A five-point run created separation at 10-6, and after the Chaparalls closed to within three, the WolfPack stormed ahead with seven consecutive points to create match point at 24-14.
Madison College hit .204 for the match, highlighted by a .562 efficiency in the final set. The team's 42 goals were a season-high, as were the 16 aces and six blocks.
Olivia Darkow, a sophomore setter from West Bend, Wisconsin, nearly set a program record with ten aces in the match, finishing one shy of the record 11 set by Kristin Brochtrup in 2006. She also registered 40 assists.
Sophomore
Paige Hostetler posted a career-best 19 kills with a .361 attack percentage. Freshman and Hartford, Wisconsin, native
Isabella Carrillo racked up a dozen kills and hit .333.
Tianna Sackett just missed double-figures with nine kills as the trio combined for 40 kills.
The WolfPack are 27-6 all-time against the College of DuPage (4-7), with all 27 wins coming consecutively since 2006.

Playing against the state's newest program for the first time ever, Madison College escaped the first set against the Bobcats with a narrow 26-24 win before dominating the final two sets of the sweep by 25-12 and 25-15 scores. Trailing by 22-16 in the first, the 'Pack went on a 10-2 closing run the culminated with a
Paige Hostetler kill and a B&S attack error to break a tie at 24. Madison jumped out to an 18-6 lead in the second set and a 19-4 advantage in the third to pick up their third consecutive match win.
Highlighted by a .444 attack percentage in the second set, the WolfPack finished the match hitting .288 overall and holding the Bobcats to a .062 efficiency. Madison finished ahead of Bryant & Stratton College () in kills (31-23), aces (11-5), blocks (6-3), assists (31-23), and digs (40-32).
Hostetler again led the attack with 13 kills on .480 hitting, to go along with seven digs. She was one of three players with three aces in the match. The other two, sophomores
Olivia Darkow and
Paige Alsum, also collected 25 assists and ten digs, respectively, to lead the team in those categories. First year middle blocker
Tianna Sackett finished second in kills with six and was tops on the team in blocks with three.
Match #1: #8 Madison College 3, Rock Valley College 1 (Saturday, 12:00 p.m.)
The weekend's final test against long-time rival Rock Valley College was all about the play of outside hitter
Paige Hostetler. The sophomore from Green Bay, Wisconsin, tied the program record for kills in a match with 25 to lead Madison College to a 25-22, 16-25, 25-16, 25-23 win. The effort by Hostetler tied the previous school record held by current assistant coach Katlynn Wirag in the NJCAA Division III National Championship Match against Lorain County Community College (OH).
Hostetler opened the match with ten kills in the first set, including a run of three straight and four in five points, before ripping the set winner. She also posted the final winning kill in the third set. For the match, Hostetler converted 25 of 57 attempts with ten errors for a .263 percentage
The WolfPack put together a 6-2 run halfway through the third set to go up 18-10 and cruise to the set win, then had to rally from an early 7-2 deficit and score six of the final seven points to win the decisive fourth set. The team's 47 kills, 46 assists, and 52 digs all stand as a season-high's in a match.
Tianna Sackett also reached double-figure kills, converting ten kills in 25 attempts. The West Salem, Wisconsin, native hit a team-best .320 for the match.
Olivia Darkow re-established her career-high in assists with 42, two better than her total from one day prior. She also tallied a match-high four aces, giving her 17 total aces for the weekend. Sophomore and former Milton HS athlete
Maddie Scalissi secured 16 digs, while freshman
Kacee Kruczek reached 13.
The match marked the 65th all-time meetting between the two programs, with the Golden Eagles owning a 37-27-1 advantage.

Madison College (6-3, 1-0) is back into N4C competition on Tuesday, September 4 at in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College (1-1, 1-1). The Stormers opened the year with a win over Triton College, bud then dropped a match at the College of DuPage. Going back to 1973, the two programs have played 117 matches, with the WolfPack leading the head-to-head series by an 85-29-3 margin and currently riding a 32-match win streak that dates back to 2003. First serve is at 7:00 p.m. at Reinman Gym at Alverno College.
