MADISON, WISC. - For the most part, the Madison College women's soccer team is striving to one-up its historic accomplishments from 2017, and with Friday's 6-0 win over Rock Valley College at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East, they have begun that process. The
#6-ranked WolfPack improved to 7-0 on the season, moving past the 6-0 start of last year's team for the best open to a season in program history. The victory also marks the sixth of the year without allowing a goal and the sixth in North Central Community College Conference play to keep the 'Pack on top of the league standings.
Scoreless as the match moved into the 20', freshman
Breanna Griffin found an opening and registered the first goal of the match. The unassisted score was the second of the season for the Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native. Four minutes later, the score reached 3-0 after second year midfielder
Peyton Trapino notched her first goal of the game and freshman
Meghan Petroski quickly followed with a scoring strike off an assist by Griffin. The Petroski goal was her sixth of the season. The WolfPack took a 4-0 lead in the first half when Petroski set up sophomore
Esther Noriega in the 32' for her fourth goal of the fall.
In the second half, Madison College freshman
Kristina Jensen recorded her first career goal with a 56' kick on an assist by fellow first year
Mary Raemisch. The scoring ended in the 76' as Trapino tallied her second two-goal game of the season and seventh goal overall.
Shots on goal heavily favored Madison College by a 16-3 margin, while the home team also took advantage of seven corner kicks to the Golden Eagles' none. First year goalkeeper
Kelly Kubicek made three saves en route to her sixth shutout of her career.
With a sweep of their regular season series, the WolfPack have now taken three of the last four meetings with Rock Valley College (1-7-1, 0-5-1), who still leads the all-time series by a 6-3-1 record.
